I think he's an optimist.



He thought once it was released, everyone could clearly see there was no quid pro quo, no pressure brought, and that it was a natural offshoot of the topic the Ukrainian President introduced.



But TDS reigned supreme, and all kinds of things were read into it that just aren't there.



I also think that he's a realist, and knew it might well go the way it did... and knew that would probably help his chances to be re-elected, and disgrace the dems to the point they would stop all this harassment.
