It's pointless if you are pursuing a degree that it not marketable, and will not provide the economic benefits to pay for the cost of education.

STEM subjects still are worth the effort and the cost if you set your mind to it.

I tried a pay as you go, and when the money went, I did not go. I turned to the trades, and entrepreneurial pursuits and did just fine, more than fine in fact. And with no debt.

A college education, now, in the U.S. is pointless unless you want to be a brainwashed communist. Most of the professors at the college level now are such rabid liberals that it is one step away from communism.. Would not send my kid to any of these universities now days!

There are other methods these days of getting a degree in higher education. Most companies want to hire people with degrees, and you can do a lot of online education which is Much Cheaper than your brick and mortar universities.

There was a time when colleges and universities were institutions of higher learning.

Today, colleges and universities are little more than institutions of higher debt.

It's certainly OK to make sure students realize what kind of debt they are getting in to.

So the question is whether or not it is acceptable to point out that many college degree programs are not worth the initial cost to get them...

That's an objective fact. It would be unethical to NOT point it out.

I have no problem with college, but you should go to acquire a specific education or skills that you could not get otherwise... With an emphasis on minimizing cost. You should not be going to college just because everyone is going to college or just because college graduates earn more money on average... Especially if you're borrowing money and studying something with no clear career path.

If you manage to convince them then they probably didn't want to go in the first place.

Sure, especially if you start with those seeking to take snowflake courses.

It's not pointless because it challenges your mind and makes you more intelligent. However, it's becoming beyond the reach of most middle class people because of the high costs and the student debt crisis caused by the lack of jobs to pay off the debt.
