What will happen to someone if they invent cold fusion energy?

Question

Cold fusion energy being technology to extract fusion energy from water at low temperatures,
eliminating the need for huge and costly fusion reactors.
I am not sure about the exact numbers, but I remember reading a quote that there is enough
fusion energy potential in a bottle of water to power a small town for a month or something like that.
Imagine filling your car with ordinary tap water.
I know cold fusion is fantasy and does not exist in reality, but let us say in theory someone invented,
thereby making fossil fuels completely obsolete, what would happen?

Will the oil and energy industry send their men in black to make sure the person disappears
from the face of the earth? Would he fall off a hotel balcony after a press conference?
Will they put something radioactive in his food? Or will they use that tired old trick where they
mess with his car so that he crashes under mysterious circumstances?
I am sure they would make sure the media reports it as an apparent suicide.

It would shake up the whole economy of the world and surely oil companies would be unhappy
about such a technology that would make fossil fuels obsolete.
Consequences would be unimaginable.

Basically, is it safe to say if I invent cold fusion energy, I might as well write my will before
presenting my invention to the world?

Lets not pretend you read the quote, you just watched some crappy movie where they claim the people who control our energy right now would kill so they could no control the new form of energy as well.



You know how cold fusion is portrayed in movies?



Like magic with no regard to the amount of expertise or equipment than any actual such discovery would require. It just pretends it would magically be easy and require no real skill. Just slap it into your Mr Fusion.



Do you realize how unrealistic that idea is?



They discover cold fusion, the energy people still are going to be the ones delivering it to your house from the cold fusion plant.



You know who'd actually be screwed? Countries which rely on selling oil Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, etc...



You don't think people wouldn't mind screwing them over?



Look, nobody is attacking the solar people and they're actually doing what you claim fusion would do.
