Does communism or capitalism matter?

Do the means of production really matter if those in power merely wish to maximize their profits?

In communist countries there are rich and poor and social classes. In China there is a pretty free market that trades globally. It is not a workers paradise but more akin to European/American industrial standards with no labor laws, child labor, no oversight, protests are brutally put down.

If capitalists are telling you the only way to compete globally is to lower your expectations for quality of life, forget about benefits, keep minuim wage low, do away with oversight, do away with labor laws.....

does it really matter if the means of production are one way or the other if social policy Fs you over?

Will we one day be competing over the diameter of the bowl of rice we are given to stay competative in a global market?

Communism is pretty much dead. There is only two communist countries left now. North Korea and Cuba and even Cuba is becoming a Democracy

China is Communist is name only. In reality they are a dictatorship with a capitalist economy

Here's something to think about....Is it really as simple as Capitalism vs Socialism, as the debates are usually framed?

Funny: Im voted down most likely because people want a "boogie man" They want the world to be black and white, good vs evil...Sorry but Communism is all but dead and todays world is much more complex then Communism vs Democracy

@Genius: FYI: Every advanced Democracy today has some form of socialism in their Government along with a Capitalist economy. Ok you know the definition of the word but don't seem to understand it.

Here is one of the Biggest single word LIE our Government ever told and pushed into the American Psyche and you too used it with total disregard to what that lack of that truthfulness has done to America...

That single word misused today is...

China

I know you are wondering what I mean and shaking your head... It is and always has been COMMUNIST China.

If I may Quote your own words above...

"In China there is a pretty free market that trades globally.."

NOTHING is Pretty Free or Free Period in COMMUNIST China.. The people aren't free to choose anything other than weather to do what they are told or starve maybe perhaps killed.

So the Deletion of Communist in front of Communist China misleads all that like you to believe the lie that there is freedom in Communist China... Does a free people work for 0.12 cents an hour? NO...

So please continue to your basic thoughts as they hold a shred of truth but realize the furtherance of the LIE of China instead of Communist China makes you part of the problem and not part of the cure...

China is capitalist. As long as there is capitalism, you will always be screwed over. Always. Communism means that YOU have a say in how the economy is run, that production is no longer for profit, but for human need.

@Entropy: Where the f*ck do people eat bark? And if capitalism is so great, why is half of the world starving?

Socialism--

1. Compare capitalism an economic theory or system in which the means of production, distribution, and exchange are owned by the community collectively, usually through the state. It is characterized by production for use rather than profit, by equality of individual wealth, by the absence of competitive economic activity, and, usually, by government determination of investment, prices, and production levels

2. any of various social or political theories or movements in which the common welfare is to be achieved through the establishment of a socialist economic system

3. (in Leninist theory) a transitional stage after the proletarian revolution in the development of a society from capitalism to communism: characterized by the distribution of income according to work rather than need

Communism--

1. advocacy of a classless society in which private ownership has been abolished and the means of production and subsistence belong to the community

2. any social, economic, or political movement or doctrine aimed at achieving such a society

3. ( usually capital ) Marxism Marxism-Leninism See also socialism a political movement based upon the writings of Marx that considers history in terms of class conflict and revolutionary struggle, resulting eventually in the victory of the proletariat and the establishment of a socialist order based on public ownership of the means of production

4. ( usually capital ) a social order or system of government established by a ruling Communist Party, esp in the former Soviet Union

5. chiefly ( US ) ( often capital ) any leftist political activity or thought, esp when considered to be subversive

6. communal living; communalism

Capitalism--

Also called: private enterprise an economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange, characterized by the freedom of capitalists to operate or manage their property for profit in competitive conditions.

NOTE: The first two define the Left in this country, and the last defines the conservative right. The left has a hard time excepting the correct definition of these words, so I constantly have to show the definitions of them so they can't redefine them to fit their agenda like they do on a consistent basis in order to attempt to vilify conservatives.

Oh crap I ran into someone with a brain. I have always believed and the evidence the world has provided has proven it to me that any one selling "ism" is full of ism. It really doesn't matter. Those with the influence and power are always going to be there and bend any system towards their will.

it is not significant to *me.* i certainly do not care what you do or do not help. in case you reside in a capitalist society, not "helping" capitalism or a minimum of handling it extremely is probable going to advise you are going to have an extremely troublesome time making a residing in that society. yet that's your situation, not mine. stable success. Peace.

Not really in the whole scheme of things! Without health and the support of your family, everything else is just inconsequential.

In capitalist countries the poor have food, shelter, heat, medicine, transportation, education, entertainment, etc. In communist countries, people eat bark. People often wake up with no idea where that evening's meal is coming from.

Yeah, it matters.

It depends.

Do you like to have freedom of speech?

Then you better stay away from communism.
