Question:
do they have sport in the USA?
2007-07-28 03:47:46 UTC
as an Englishman who is currently in the USA on business i feel i must ask the above.
I like to drink and go to football/rugby/cricket matches, but they dont seem to have anything in the USA that resembles sport.
Most games involve very camp men with protection suits on to stop them stubbing their toe.It reminds me of "its a knockout".
Is there any real mens sport in the USA?

You spend too much time in bars.

Learn to change the channel on the tellie, or sober up and ask someone about where you can see a match.

We have allot of sports here, allot of them are variations of your sports. We have American football, all we did was take English football and added excitement to it. We have baseball, which is like cricket, only it doesn't take 5 days to play, only to end in a tie. We have darts here, but no one cares. And we have a whole lot of other sports no one cares about, but every four years we send a bunch of players no one here ever heard of to kick the @sses of your national heroes in the Olympics. (Count the medals if you ever want to be depressed) We can't wait until 2012, whet we can beat you in your home country.

Sincerely, The country who's the current Olympic Rugby gold medalists

For your information the Olympics haven't had rugby since 1924, not because it's ludicrous, but after USA beat the French on their home pitch, the French fans when all soccer hooligan. Since then the Olympics haven't allowed rugby. That doesn't change the fact that USA is the current Olympic rugby champions. Also rugby is an English sport (the only good one I might add) So saying it's ludicrous isn't insulting American sports, it's insulting English sports.

Rugby Olympic Champions? Is that because nobody else could be bothered to turn up for such a clearly ludicrous event?

American Sports surely have to be the most mind numbingly dull activities there are. Baseball takes about a week and nothing really happens - in the UK this is a game that we use to teach little girls how to hold rolling pins. American Football - zzzzz, sorry I dropped off. NOTHING EVER HAPPENS! The ball moves a couple of yards and they have to stop to adjust what I can only describe as their rather effeminate centurion costumes back into place and check their make-up. As for basketball - this is another game for little girls, only we call it Netball. Golf! Who said Golf?! I don't think you can claim credit for that one old boy!

Nice one Syd - you've reeled in quite a few on this one! And they still don't get it....

Hi Sidney,

I don't know where in the US you are, but in my part of the US you could definitely find manly men sans protective gear bashing each other and a ball and you could drink and carouse to your heart's content.

You wouldn't be doing this at a professional sports event, but rather at club games. The games--football and soccer, mostly--are competitive and decidedly non-sissy and afterwards the team and the spectators go to the bar and the rest of the fun starts.

Ask around--this may be true where you are, but it's not something that gets written up in the big city newspapers.

I hope things look up for you.

No they play a poofy game which they call "Football" where wimpy girlyboys run round all padded up because they don't want to bruise their delicate skin. We play something similar in just shorts and shirt - we call it Rugby.

They call real football "soccer" for some reason.

They also play hockey which is a sport played by schoolgirls in the UK.

Baseball is basically just "Rounders" which we also played as schoolgirls.

Americans get scared of cricket because the scoring system is too complicated and theres no cheerleaders (unless you count the Barmy Army lol)!

We play European football and rugby over here. Cricket may be harder to find.

other than that...

We did manage to spice up basketball by adding trampolines to the court, and dodge ball started to gain a bit of a following a year or so ago.
