The U.S. Department of Justice is responding to charges of discrimination in scoring standards for tests that prevent blacks and other minorities from being police officers even though the Dayton Police Department has a severe shortage of qualified officers, so a request has been made by the DOJ that the test scores be slightly lowered from 63% to 58% on part one and by a 3-point margin on the second half in order to allow applicants who scored within the new range to at least attend the police academy for training. This seems fair to me...these people might still flunk out of the Academy, but maybe they won't, and then the Police Department can have a racially diverse police force instead of one that is all white and mostly male.

The City of Dayton should totally ignore any orders from Washington, DC. There is no authority for the federal government to interfere in a local issue like this. I'd tell comrade holder to kiss off.

Well, it is interesting. I remember before the economic downturn, New York City was spending millions advertising for Black people to apply for Police and Firemen positions. It seems that those that were educated enough to pass the tests were not interested in being police or firemen.



It appears they still are not.

if I was black i would be insulted by this. In essence by lowering the standards for blacks they are saying that blacks cannot compete on a level playing field with everyone else. They can.

You mean the department of social justice.The next time you are facing the knife of a surgeon and he or she happens to be black, you need to ask yourself, is that person here because of merit or was his testing standards lowered to meet a quota.
