Question:
If you were an HP shareholder?
2010-10-27 09:16:32 UTC
would you want your CEO to do whatever was necessary to ensure the company remained competitive?

Libs mock Fiorina because she, as HP CEO, laid off thousands. What they don't say is that when she left, employee numbers were higher than when she took the position. Also, layoffs were due to two issues, 1) the Internet bubble bursting and 2) staff redundancy due to the merger with Compaq.

Do Libs feel they are entitled to a job? Do Libs feel that there is NO REASON to let employees go?

This "Lib Entitlement Mentality" is what is killing this country.

Libs don't know how the private sector works. Most are public sector employees.

Yes, what Fiorina did was set the table for the successful company it now is. When she took over HP it was a printer company with a dead-end future. She turned it into a computer company that competes head to head with Dell, Sony, Toshiba and others. HP employs many more people now as a result of her forethought. This is what shareholders are looking for.

Yes, I would, but unlike most shareholders money would not be my sole primary concern. Most of these shareholders know nothing of the industry, and are chasing money, and will appoint whomever says they can make it, or select whatever plan supposedly generates the most. They also chase short term gains over long term ones, typically.

If Fiorina had not done what she did, she would have been fired and replaced by someone else who would. She did well at HP.

if the company was under threat of tanking i would want the CEO to do whatever that is necessary to keep the company afloat even if it means laying off some employees

I was laid off at HP under Mark Turd. Carley was a far better CEO at HP.

I'm hoping she can use her efficiency expertise to cut some of the fat out of California's bloated bureaucracy and swollen employee pool.
