You know what? Most Koreans don't give a **** about what's going on in the Korean peninsula. Kim dynasty has threatened South Korea in many ways more than 5000 times, but nothing actually happened in our daily lives. This means you don't have to be frightened of him.

Hydrogen bombs are not old tech (although they were developed a while back) they still remain the single most powerful bomb in existence. Hydrogen refers to two hydrogen isotopes being fused to release tremendous amounts of energy. The more current name for this type of weapon is a thermonuclear bomb. It produces more energy than a fission bomb (the type we used in WWII) which uses uranium-235 as it's fissile material. So yes you should be scared, a hydrogen bomb weighing a little over a ton can produce an explosion equivalent to that of approximately 1 million tons of TNT. Although I'm sure as long as we just leave Mr. Jong-Un to his own devices he won't be using those bombs any time soon.

No.

Why, you ask? Well, let me elaborate:

1) North Korea's claim that they have developed an H-bomb is dubious at best. Developing an H-bomb is much more technically and scientifically involved than developing a simple A-bomb. North Korea is a backwater hellhole barely capable of keeping their electrical grid running for cryin' out loud. It's also worth pointing out that the NK media is nothing but a bu11$ĥįť factory designed to dupe the NK populace and stroke Kim's ego. The NK media would have you believe that, in addition to developing an H-bomb, they've also cured AIDS, won the World Series, landed the first man on the moon, invented time travel, and who knows what else!

2) In the unlikely event that NK actually has built and H-bomb, they don't have a delivery system capable of striking the USA.

3) And even IF (and that's a big "if") NK could strike US soil, they still wouldn't have the balls to do it because Kim knows damn well that our MASSIVE retaliatory nuclear strike would vaporize his whole country. The entire country of NK would be reduced to one giant, smoking crater. Our nuclear arsenal could, quite literally, erase North Korea from the map...and they are well aware of this.

So, all things considered, the smart money says that this is just more of Kim's typical pompous bu11$ĥįť posturing.

Oh, for heavens sake. First of all it was not a hydrogen bomb. It registered a 5.1, the same as the last one.they touched off. Second: They have no delivery system for a hydrogen bomb. Third: their only trading partner is China. And they are pissed off at all this fooling around by this kid. Fourth: The U.S., Russia, and China all have agreed to talk with the boy. If he continues to scare the people, he soon will not be able to set off a firecracker. His people are already starving, and brainwashed, he has to do this once in a while, just to convince them they are a big power in the world. Look for some sanctions, (not to be released to the damn media, who blow everything out of proportion). Oh, I agree, he is crazy. What surprises me is they haven't blamed this on Obama (yet).

in the scheme of things, nuclear weapons themselves are not that terribly difficult to develop (remember, hydrogen bombs are technology of the 1950s, more than 70 years ago). DELIVERING them is. A long range missile program (or a submarine program) is far more complex to build and maintain. NK lacks a rocket capable of reaching much further than Japan and even those seem to be failure prone.

In addition, at the nation-state level, the concept of MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) will prevent any nuclear exchange. Before NK's rockets even touched down, retaliatory strikes would be en-route and the country would simply.. cease to exist. Even Kim Jong-Il realizes that.

THE REAL fear of nuclear weaponry these days should be from terrorist organizations. Like it or not folks, that IS coming. By the end of the 21st century, a major western city (in the US or in Europe) WILL suffer a nuclear attack from a rogue force.

The area where you should be concerned is that Kim desperately needs foreign currency and ISIS and Al Qaeda are willing to pay many millions of dollars for a working nuclear bomb so that they can set it off in a Western city.

You're living in a world where the USA has attacked countries illegally, funded terrorists, armed dictators, embezzled trillions and put even Nazi Germany to shame with some of it's rhetoric and war crimes.

You're scared about a regime that could be dealt with overnight? Seems you're an easily scared dandy man.

No I'm not scared by him. The probability that North Korea has a hydrogen appears on balance to be extremely unlikely. A lot of what comes out of North Korea is bluster. We should make no assumptions about Kim Jong-un. He was the illegitimate youngest son of the previous leader. He's obviously savvy enough to have worked his way through the complex politics and intrigues to reach the top position in North Korea's ruling family. He will know that whilst he might get the first strike in that North Korea has little chance against the rest of the world. Whilst the West may not count on countries such as China or Russia they no more want North Korea to have such a nuclear arsenal. North Korea's rulers know that if they instigated a nuclear war they would be alone without allies and would be defeated. It is very important to remember that this is never done solely for foreign media consumption. Everything the leaders of that country do is as much for domestic consumption as external. They were sending out two messages. One was to the rest of the world to say look what we have got. The other was to help keep the people under control to tell them your wonderful leaders are protecting you against the big bed best

North Korea themselves claim to have detonated a hydrogen bomb. They have, I'm not saying it wasn't. It was physically detected as a ~5.1 on the richter scale. They evidently did something. Now I am no expert by any means. But consider that, based on the research and discussions I've listened to, an h-bomb harvest's the same power as the sun's fusion process. This is an incredible leap in technology if they've mastered such a power. But I doubt it. Instead, a tiny tiny portion of the Hydrogen Fusion Process may have taken place, and that is sufficient enough to claim you hold the power of an H-bomb. That is what NK wants though isn't it? To scare others into submission so that action will not be taken against them? I can say I've run an Iron-Man marathon, even if I only took 3 steps after the starting line.

(Consider that, logically, China uses North Korea as a diplomatic leverage against United States) On the political side, I doubt that China (North Korea's largest backer and only major reason North Korea still exists) would allow North Korea to launch any attack. So the threat here is critically nullified. As much as China wants to be ahead in terms of global power, they need other countries such as the United States to refrain from defaulting altogether. Here it gets very very complicated. It has something to do with economics, War chest of China, the Yuan/renminbi, and the (fun fact) 1.3 TRILLION USD debt that China owes the US, etc. Ron Paul could help me with this topic.

Conclusion: This is a good topic to discuss about. It engages people and spreads awareness. Maybe then something may be done about NK. I'm sure many of us dislike NK's practices. And there are a lot of factors we can involve. But do not let one guy on the other side of the world scare you. But that doesn't mean you don't keep an eye on them.
2016-01-08 13:46:38 UTC
It is scary and that guy is crazy. You are so right on that! But North Korea has made claims before about missiles and they have been found out to be lies. I don't really think that they tested an H-bomb, but I think they might have tested some sort of bomb underground, thus the seizmic activity. But there is a chance it might be true and that is scary because he is a madman. Another thing is that even if it is an H-bomb, it doesn't mean that they can make it go very far. I think the danger is more for people living in North and South Korea and maybe Japan.

So sad that there are idiots like him but the biggest idiots are all his servants, all those that enable him and support him in his wicked actions.

A hydrogen bomb is extremely complex, the chemistry alone requires a static free environment that is kept at a constant temperature. The material used in these bombs are very unstable and highly radioactive and if not handled properly will breakdown and become useless very quickly. The odds that north korea has the resources to build one is very unlikely, so far China reported a earthquake around when they said they tested the bomb (but the could have triggered any number of things to shake the ground that hard). Kin Jong-un makes a lot of claims like this all the time and its as much to scare his own people as it is to frighten outsiders

Yeah, well, Hydrogen, Nuclear, he's had such devastating WMD's for a while now.

And yes, you're right, he doesn't seem like someone who we can trust not to use them.

However, Kim is not ruled by a theology that says everyone who disagrees with him must die.

So, his WMD capability is considerably less dangerous than someone like Iran who thinks Allah has tasked them with the job of bringing about the apocalypse and the coming of the Islamic messiah.

And of course, Obama helped them to that end by providing materials to help Iran with their nuclear "power" program and giving them effective control over how and when inspections are done, and gave them places that are guaranteed not to be inspected.

Basically, Obama ensured that Iran could accomplish their nuclear weapons development within the next decade or two

The sanctions were holding Iran back, but Obama lifted those and gave Iran the power to hide it's development of nuclear weapons based on the idea that the next president can't undue a treaty already agreed upon by the previous administration.

We do not yet know if this 'hydrogen bomb' was real or pretend.

So let's go back to 1957 and meet the 'dastardly and cunning British' yes, those same allies who stood with the USA during WW2 and in Korea and etc.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/british-h-bomb-tests-in-1957-were-a-bluff-research-shows-even-us-was-fooled-by-uk-claims-to-have-1557484.html

My thinking is that the Koreans are probably as devious as we Brits.

So, until we have firm hard evidence then we can safely assume that the Nkrins do not have a real H-Bomb.

And, even if they do, the best they can do with it is to drop it somewhere near Japan or on Japan - their main enemy target.

After that it's anyone's guess.

The best advice I can give is that given by Al Capone - "Do unto others as they would do unto you, only do it first."

Why not just drop an H-Bomb on the Nkrins while there's still time - oops, one of their H-Bomb things went off by mistake. . . .

"The press is the only business protected by the Constitution. The reason they are protected is because it was assumed that they would be honest and that they would be on the side of the people and not have an agenda." —Ben Carson

This quote speaks for itself. I am disappointed that we have this many uneducated people in the US who's only source of news in either Fox News or CNN. Both are misleading and bigoted in their own right. To answer your question, it's unlikely that Kim's claim to the Hydrogen bomb is accurate; remember he has also claimed that North Korea has developed cures to Cancer and AIDS. Even if his claim was true, I wouldn't worry about it. Chances are that the country won't be around 20 years from now.

North Korea's Kim Jong-un, Jr. is just as, if not more, deluded than his fanatic father. The "successful" bomb tests merely serve to deceptively fool his "loyal" North Korea minions, who are pretty much trapped to live there against their will. Eventually North Koreans are going to figure out Jong-un, Jr. is nothing but a smoke-and-mirrors fake weak sycophantic poser; they'll string him up and kill him, just like the Italians did to Mussolini at the end of WW2.

While I'm NOT amused or intimidated by baby Jong-un, Jr.--I don't underestimate the deluded, idiot who's evidently mentally ill; China barely tolerates North Korea....but they currently maintain Communist support for Jong-un, Jr.

I don't think the guy is actually crazy. Developing an H-bomb works for him and his lousy government, in an odd way. He's positioning himself as a madman with an H-bomb so that nobody either inside or outside of his country will dare to attack him.

Am I scared of him having the H-bomb, however? Yeah, a little. I don't think he's crazy enough actually to use it, but you never can tell.

Probably the level of ignorance in the United States is more scary. Ignorant people are easy to manipulate, and they are more likely to believe lies and half truths.

The US can ease the situation on the Korean peninsular by simply withdrawing troops. Let the Koreans sort things out without US involvement. But this is not going to happen. The US military need money and they do their job for the US government. If the US is not militarily present across the globe, the US dollar will lose its value. Because it has no value and the only thing that makes other countries use it, is the petrodollar backed up by the US military presence in the Middle East, East Asia, Europe, etc. The US will keep imperceptibly provoking North Korea and will make a lot of noise when North Korea responds.

Maybe their system is all ready tired, but they can't give up, because on they the capitalism is there, they leaders can end up in prison for crime against humanity.

Maybe if USA and South Corea will tell the leaders : Hey if you give up, you will walk away free....

Its always worrying when someone like Kim Jong-un come to power if he gives no indication of being mature or bright enough to to be in power at all. Without this indication, of course it makes you wonder.

Mark you, its not all that difference with however has hold of the reins anywhere in tho world. Any so called leader has to have a bit of a power kink to even want to lead everyone else to either Hell or salvation, so we all need to place our bets and go by the results.

The fact that depending on the results of some other power crazy clown could result in everything being vaporised above the lever of your boot tops is rather disturbing.

If I remember right the last time the U.S. used the 'H Bomb" was at the end of WWII bombing Japan then they decided that the H Bomb was too destructive so with this in mind N. Korea has no business with one period. what I can't understand is how they tested this without our so-called Intelligence knowing about it. we had caught them before so why not now. China isn't too happy about this at all since they felt the blast there so we are going to hear a lot of issues concerning this testing. I'm not so much worried per say on them using it on us in the U.S. but the real scare to me is if N. Korea sells their H-Bomb to other countries or terrorists.

Be patient, people. There was an interview with a North Korean woman who described being taught from infancy to say as though one word "bastardAmerica" whenever mentioning the United States. The negativity towards the U.S. has been brainwashed into most North Koreans, so breaking through this mindset barrier is going to require some surgical precision and joint efforts with other nations---both of which have been in use all along with the Obama administration (and other administrations as well). Our intelligence community is widespread, highly skilled, and dispersed as needed. We have crippling sanctions in place that the UN backs, and can take other measures to freeze assets or whatever else our intelligence network and the intelligence operations of neighboring nations sees as a way of blocking expansion of the program.

no! i subscribe to the same assumption that the saving gracē lies in the fact that, unlike most islamic countries' NK's behavior is not contaminated by fanatical religious beliefs. while, it may be said that if NK, a country that has a deplorable 'rights' record and a majority of whose population lives in abject poverty, takes possession of any WMD, the danger that it could pose to the rest of the world is going to be 'real and imminent'.

compare this with such weapons falling into the hands of ISIS or the Taliban or some extremist islamic group who are fully indoctrinated with the idea that death by 'jihad' is the only way to salvation, and a paralyzing fear sets in. so long as NK doesn't start providing these weapons to any of these islamic terrorists, the world will be safe. it is these that is a bigger threat. the question here is whether NK will be driven to or tempted to sell these weapons to the extremists. my take on this is again a no!

we know how this Kim bloke enjoys his women, food and drinks and how unlikely it is for him to give all this up. if there is a nuclear war, NK will never be spared. and, he is aware of this. we, therefore, are save for now. but, God forbid, if any if these islamic terrorist lay heir hands of any of the WMD whatever form they may take - chem, bio, or nuclear!

Someone I know says it was not a Hydrogen bomb - well not a traditional one. It was a carbon-hydrogen hybrid bomb - specifically a CH4 bomb. Otherwise known as methane. Security sources say that Lil'Kim lit one of his Emmental-cheese-fuelled farts in an underground bunker and the explosion registered 5.6 on the Richter Scale.

Should we be worried? No, say my sources. Lil-Kim would need to eat his own weight in Emmental every single day in order to produce a fart with the potential to be weaponized. That's never going to happen. In the meantime, security sources say to avoid travelling with him in elevators for the foreseeable future.

I am very afraid that North Korea has nuclear weapons mountable on missile delivery systems that can range the US all controlled by a lunatic who continues to develop these programs unopposed at his leisure. If you live in the western US, you should be fearful, too. His Taepodong missiles have a range of 6000 km, enough to hit most of eastern Asia, Washington, Oregon, California… More concerning is that he will happily sell nuclear technology to the highest bidder, which is how Pakistan got their nukes. Now that 0bama gave Iran a path to nukes with his idiotic destabilizing treaty, the oil rich Sunni Arab Gulf states want ones to counter Iran. 0bama caused a middle east nuclear arms race. Nuclear war is infinitely more probable as a direct consequence of his idiocy and ineptitude. The problem with nukes is that even if you are not in the blast area, earth is still rotating and we will orbit into the irradiated debris in the atmosphere, the fallout. It will not dissipate in your system. You will be poisoned until you absorb enough that you die a long slow painful death. Were the foodstamps and abortions worth it, 0bama voters?

How ironic that 0bama complains about carbon footprints/global warming and American gun rights while enabling rogue regimes to obtain the ultimate environmental hazard and catastrophic weapons? It is almost like he hates America and advantages our enemies.

No, i'm not scared of NK and it's H-bomb. If you learn enough about the people of DPRK, they are simply trying to protect themselves against the "imperialists". I think the way they run their society is totally backwards and out of the norm, but trust me, they put all of their money into the military to protect themselves. No, they do NOT want to start a war. They know they'll get decimated. North Korea making all these threats is total propoganda. It's a propoganda war between the DPRK and the Capitalist countries, mainly the U.S.

I am not thrilled about their working on Nuclear weapons as it's likely to only have other nations seek to get or develop them. I think it's time CHINA act and reign in it's PIG of a puppet or simply allow the USA & So Koreans the privilege of finishing the war that didn't ever end without interruption or intervention. Yes folks had the Chinese not intervened on behalf of the NORTH KOREANS we would have a unified DEMOCRATIC KOREA today instead of a belligerent step child of CHINA. I think the Chinese would welcome the USA & So Korea dealing with the NORTH via war at this juncture and in fact wouldn't support them one iota. PEACE!

The man is a nut. That's enough to keep him under the microscope. He claims they've tested a "hydrogen" device and because he is a nut he must be believed until proven otherwise. What he can not do (right now) is deliver any such device. We need to make sure he remains contained.

No, here's why. 1: North Korea isn't strong enough to take out the USA, or any country for that matter. 2: USA has the world's most advanced missile defence in the world. Should a nuclear missile be launched towards us, it would be shot out of the sky long before it struck.

I find it interesting that you are not scared of your own government (USA) (the most proliferative perpetrator of wars in the world). If anyone has weapons of mass destruction, it's the USA. Do I need to remind you of Vietnam? We don't even have to back that far.

And far more sinister wars are being fought on the biological front with GMOs, aspartame, sucralose, all thanks to the USA

Not really, he's trying o extort money from the rest of the world. From Jimmy Carter thru Clinton's presidency we actually shipped his predecessor stuff if they would refrain from nuclear research. We don't do that anymore and he's trying to get the money pipeline reestablished.

The Chines don't like it either, they will stomp him out if starts anything.

You are scared because obama is weak. He has capitulated on significant advantages that the US had to other nations in his represented liberal belief that they will treat you as you treat them. The future will have to decide if this stated policy was the incompetence of obama or if this was a ruse of obama to intentionally harm the country simply because he hates most Americans. But, in any event, you should know that the big boys do not play by the rules taught to young girls. It should also make you wonder if obama ever stopped playing with dolls.

2016-01-06 06:16:44 UTC
If, in fact, he has the H-Bomb, there is real reason for concern. Dictators NEED to have their subjects in a constant state of fear, posing themselves as their protector and, given a chance of losing control such a dictator COULD see the use of the H-Bomb on an imagined enemy as a way of keeping control.

The notion that Kim is more trustworthy than the US government is ludicrous - and we all know it.

We are not sure about Kim Jong's "Factory Product" --name H-Bomb.
2016-01-05 22:48:17 UTC
If he does have any I doubt he intends to use them. The NK leadership has decades of experience of bringing the peninsula to the brink of open war so that they can get what they want. If he does use them it will be because his handlers (puppet masters?) want him to. Aside from that it's been said that he just really likes being at the top. It would surprise me if "jr" actually did something to threaten his comfortable position.

The alternative is that he may intend to sell them to the highest bidders. What does he want more: to be able to use his weapons as leverage or to make a boatload of money off of them?
