We would hang the survivors after the shootout. Treason and insurrection are capital crimes, even in California.

Never mind tha Alamo. Remember Atlanta!

These dissenting revolutionaries would not be "overthrowing the US government" by conquering and seceding merely one state (although instrumental) while 49 American states remain under federal administration/control. The most serious attempt at secession was advanced in the years 1860 and 1861 as eleven southern states each declared themselves seceded from the United States and merged to establish the Confederate States of America....are you not aware of what ensued subsequent to this? Article IV empowers Congress to admit new States. But there is no provision of the Constitution that authorizes a state to leave the Union or bars it from doing so. Guaranteed, the uprising would be eradicated and reincorperated into the Union. An autonomous California may sustain itself temporarily by having ample resources, lucrative economy, and sufficient manpower, however insurgencies loyal to the US inside California and the sheer might of the American juggernaut would dissolve it.

The Federal government would never let the group get past the stage where they would be able to assemble judges and well trained and motivated fighters. The group would be demonized by the media that works in tandem with the government to maintain control, like they did in the various militia groups in the 1990's.

But if a group were somehow able to be able to get past the assembly stage, the Federal government would probably just run a military operation like Waco and just burn the group's compound to the ground, including women and children.

Or the Federal government would send either the FBI or BATF would infiltrate the group with agent provacatuers to instill mistrust and conflict between the leadership. Then the provacatuer would then attempt to get someone to admit on video to wanting to perpetrate some violent act. They would then run a sting operation on the group's leaders and they would be brought up on federal weapons charges, and the group would dissolve. If the infiltrator happened to be caught by the leadership, then the federal government's last option would alikely be to stage an event like OKC and then blame the rebel group.

I can totally Understand why someone would have visions of overthrowing the GOV. We all work hard and pay for more than we need to in taxes!! If we weren't funding an over bloated GOV. that has no idea what a trillion dollars means or is, we would all be better off on a Independent State level where a flat tax of 10- 15 % would cover our needs and smaller government as well.

Why must people (wrongly) think that an act such as secession must be done violently? One could easily see the current state of California broken up into at least 4 separate states or independent entities based on regional dissimilarities alone. Look at Texas, I believe they have a clause in their own constitution that if they were to leave the union, that they could split up into five separate states. There are ways to fix this nation without resorting to violence, and the peaceful ways should ALWAYS be the FIRST option.

Well, in a way, I think many states should go independent. I can see why many people want to do that because there is so much interference from Washington. Just look at the EU, too big which means more corruption, which equals chaos, recession, etc. I would think, to answer your question, that it would be stopped by the military.

No government is so liberal that it is going to let itself be overthrown. A plot such as you describe would be quickly discovered, and the FBI would infiltrate your group and arrest the ringleaders before you caused any real harm.
