Why Don't Millions More Dems Drive Smaller Cars that Get a Lot Better Gas Mileage?

I hear Dems moan about global warming, but GM, Ford, and Volkswagon say that consumers don't want small cars.

What's up, Dems? Why don't ALL of you buy small cars?

Why are you helping to destroy the planet and kill polar bears?

We need more and cheaper hybrid cars. I walk and take public transportation as much as possible. Not everyone can do that because of the areas in which they live.



Changes in transportation usage including the types of cars are slow in coming but they are coming.

Well you are kind of both right. Gas mileage is a combination of things. If a car weighs less then it is easier to move (better gas mileage). Also, the wind resistance all affects it. A boxy car will get worse gasemileage then a streamlined car. At the same time, having a smaller engine improves gas mileage. Cars generally only need closer to 100hp to get the job done but cars usually have 200hp. So when you have an engine that outputs more work then is required, you're just wasting that energy and thus, wasting gas. Check out the diagram in that link. It'll show you where all the energy in the gas goes. Without an explanation, having a bigger engine would result in similar losses of gas mileage as having a bigger, heavier vehicle. First it is important to know that small cars do not mean better emissions or gas mileage. The technology now allows for larger type cars (SUVs) to automatically shift from a V8 to a V4 - allowing better gas mileage and better for environment.



I guess I would wonder why the law allows for OLD cars (what, 20 years or older) NOT to have to be smogged. What is that about? Everyone knows driving behind an old diesel mercedez or VW for example you have to close your car vents and apply air mask simply to continue to drive without passing out. Those are the cars that need it the MOST and we let them slide!!!!

Because they bought Japanese hybrids since they were the first to come out with them. GM, Ford, and Volkswagon should have jumped on the bandwagon earlier.

It is not true that people don't want smaller cars.The car companies like larger cars in conjunction with big oil to use more fuel.The electric car is an example of an auto that was shut down by Gov. and big business.I'm not for large vehicles that are not needed.I have voted Dem and once in 2,0000 Republican HUGE MISTAKE!! I mean, even Bush has no less than like seven Chevy Suburbans to following him around when not using AirForce 1.
