Question:
Was the study that said liberals had an I.Q of 106 and conservatives had an I.Q of 97 legitimate?
2010-03-05 07:12:44 UTC
..... the London School of Economics and Political Science, analyzed a survey of 14,000 US adolescents conducted between the year 2001 and 2002. One question addressed their level of religious beliefs. The options they were given ranged from “not at all religious”, “somewhat religious”, “moderately religious”, and “very religious.” The “not at all religious” group showed the highest IQ (103), while the “very religious” group came up with an average IQ of 97. This is, after all, only a minute but detectable difference. The average IQ of the entire population lies at 100.

The National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health – used by the London scientists – also inquired the adolescents’ political convictions. As the scientists wrote in Social Psychology Quarterly, those who saw themselves as “very liberal” reached an IQ of 106, while those who characterized themselves as “very conservative” had only an average IQ of 95.

What does that have to do with being fiscally responsible? Most conservatives run businesses and believe the only successful path is through prudent spending. Most who disagree with that are on the receiving end of others hard work. I cannot see how that has anything to do with IQ except that certain people have a great work ethic or have a higher IQ and will consequently succeed at just about anything.

I have a Left winger in my office who has 10 degrees, and she has no common sense when it comes to business. The partners stopped having meetings because her ideas are terrible, and they are attempting to remove her from the Board. Everything she proposes costs us twice what was promised, involves more work and results in less revenue. Sound familiar? She needs to go back to teaching. Business is for the brave.

Look up the history of that school. It was founded by a communist institution. I am not talking about an institute labeled communist by right-wingers. I mean an institutiion that proudly refers to itself as communist.

Another issue is the fact that IQ tests do a better job of testing a person's testing skills than testing actual intellect. I have a degree in education so I know that to be a fact. Of the several IQ tests I have taken, they have ranged from 125 to 136. So a 6 point spread is likely within the margin of error.

is this a actual learn: CNN learn shows Liberals have greater IQ's than Conservatives? looks like the comparable biased crap you pays attention from somebody pointing out that "it somewhat is been shown" that white human beings have an stronger IQ then black human beings. Satoshi Kanazawa Is a liberal and he's an atheist. So it somewhat is not stunning that Satoshi Kanazawa could state such biased elitist rubbish while talking of the psychological adjustments between liberals and conservatives, while he applies this comparable thought to race besides. He has been accused of marketing racial stereotypes that some could call racist. What do you call somebody who promotes psychological stereotyping and psychological superiority of one team of human beings over the different? Conservatives represent the different area of the coin that the left would not represent .

The flaws in your study and your over interpretation of it have been well answered by others. I'd just like to add that even if true, an IQ of 106 hardly constitutes membership in the intelligentsia. Why not defend ideas and policies instead of trying to prove that all the really smart people think just like you?

about as legitimate as as the Nazi party blaming the Jewish people for the problems of germany and then coming up with some kind of scientific study to prove that Jewish people were not only bellow the average intelligence but also that they may have been evolved from rats.

There was Dr on Air America a few years back saying that Republicans were actually mostly poor country folk and that 90% or more of Republicans suffered from mental illnesses and birth defects such as downs syndrome.

Its all propaganda!

Has ANY lefty EVER even TRIED to make a point with honest means?

Look at YOUR OWN source and you'll see there was NO actual measure of any participant's ideology. The FACT is that only about 1/6 of self-identified "liberals" actually hold beliefs consistent with that label.

These numbers are within the average and no conclusion can be made about the results. I imagine the results of a test for Independents and Libertarians would indicate an average of 130 or higher.

Typical dem comprehension problem. They survey divided the groups by religious beliefs, not political.

If accurate, perhaps they should base income tax brackets on IQ. After all, the libs know how to spend other people's money better than them. Maybe they should also pay in a larger share. That seems to make about as much sense as that study wouldn't you agree?

How could you, with an IQ of 43 read any study?
2010-03-05 07:25:59 UTC
That would put the poor conservatives 12 points above the average person with down syndrome. (I burnt the restaurant, but I saved the silverware, so we can start over.)
2010-03-05 07:13:32 UTC
No. Simply look at my study. IQ has never been measured based on political ideology. The London School of Economics study didn't adjust for race and political beliefs. If it had, the gap would be flipped and more than double the results found.

i'd say that children know no political stance.and that's in the liberal mecca of the uk.i find people who post these kind of things are the ones who tend to be ignorant and lack the proper academia to form their own logical conclusions.

I would say yes because it backs ups the results of every similar study in the last 20 years.

It it widely excepted it is a fact water is wet and conservatives have a lower IQ than liberals. I personally feel that the conservatives are just much more gullible then liberals this factor has lowered there IQ rating.

So lets take it to the top.

There have been twelve presidents over the past 50 years, from F.D. Roosevelt to G.W. Bush, who were rated based on scholarly achievements:

1. Writings that they produced without aid of staff.

2. Their ability to speak with clarity, and several other psychological factors, which were then scored using the Swanson/Crain System of intelligence ranking.

The study determined the following IQs of each president as accurate to within five percentage points. In order by presidential term:

PRESIDENT PARTY IQ

Franklin Delano Roosevelt [D] 142

Harry S Truman [D] 132

Dwight David Eisenhower [R] 122

John Fitzgerald Kennedy [D] 174

Lyndon Baines Johnson [D] 126

Richard Milhous Nixon [R] 155

Gerald R. Ford [R] 121

James Earle Carter [D] 175

Ronald Wilson Reagan [R] 105

George Herbert Walker Bush [R] 098

William Jefferson Clinton [D] 182

George Walker Bush [R] 091

In order of IQ rating:

IQ PRESIDENT PARTY

182 William Jefferson Clinton [D]

175 James Earle Carter [D]

174 John Fitzgerald Kennedy [D]

155 Richard Milhous Nixon [R]

147 Franklin Delano Roosevelt [D]

132 Harry S Truman [D]

126 Lyndon Baines Johnson [D]

122 Dwight David Eisenhower [R]

121 Gerald R. Ford [R]

105 Ronald Wilson Reagan [R]

098 George Herbert Walker Bush [R]

091 George Walker Bush [R]

The six Republican presidents of the past 50 years had an average IQ of 115.5, with President Nixon having the highest at 155. President George W. Bush rated the lowest of all the Republicans with an IQ of 91.

The six Democratic presidents of the past 50 years had an average IQ of 156, with President Clinton having the highest IQ, at 182. President Lyndon B. Johnson was rated the lowest of all the Democrats with an IQ of 126. No president other than Carter [D] has released his actual IQ (176). Note the institute measured him at 175.

Among comments made concerning the specific testing of President G.W. Bush, his low ratings are due to his apparently difficult command of the English language in public statements, his limited use of vocabulary [6,500 words for Bush versus an average of 11,000 words for other presidents], his lack of scholarly achievements other than a basic MBA, and an absence of any body of work which could be studied on an intellectual basis.

The complete report documents the methods and procedures used to arrive at these ratings, including depth of sentence structure and voice stress confidence analysis.

"All the Presidents prior to George W. Bush had a least one book under their belt, and most had written several white papers during their education or early careers. Not so with President Bush," Dr. Lovenstein said. "He has no published works or writings, which made it more difficult to arrive at an assessment. We relied more heavily on transcripts of his unscripted public speaking."
