Youths wearing hoodies have been barred from Bluewater Shopping Centre - should the same bar be imposed upon those wearing the veil? How the hell do we know whats going on under that ridiculous garment.

Absolutely right with you there. Also anyone who has a bomb strapped to their waist should be severely frowned upon.

its a completely different thing teenagers wearing hoodies to muslim women these women are following a tradition by their people that's been around for 2000 years and before BC as Muslim and Jewish are the 2 original faiths before Christianity.

The veil is not a fashion statement, as was a hoodie. These women are following their religious beliefs and what their culture demands. To remove their veils in public would be braking the laws of Islam. I'm not a Muslim myself but have a family member who is and I've worked with Muslim women in the past. To disobey their husbands by removing it would cause no end of problems for them. I know that us whites have a problem with their beliefs but if we all learn ed to tolerate each others teachings and beliefs the world would be a nicer place to live in. There would never have been a 9/11 or 7/7 and our boys in Iraq would be at home with their loved ones not dying to put a stop to dictators like Sada ham Hussein and Jack Straw .

Maybe the hoodies should go follow Islam instead.

Veils are for Stand-storms and I guess you don't get many of them in a shopping centre.

Funny, just noticed something I have missed: VEIL is an anagram of EVIL...

'Neds' , Chavs' , Youths wearing Hoodies are intimidating to people simply because they HIDE THEIR FACES. Muslim women who do the same are worse , they are perceived as cynical , and they go out of their way to do so. Good old Jack , he has said has the 'balls' to say it. You see them in groups wearing their masks in public , what for? , only to make a statement , they don't have to you know. One difficulty I have with it is , they cannot be recognised by anyone so they could be carrying anything on their person. I want to see people's faces , for a smile or a frown. Political Statements like they are doing sucks!!

This topic is getting out of hand, the only reason this is being discussed is due to Islamaphobia (hating anything relating to Islam). When has the veil been an issue? Having a face-to-face animated conversation, i spoken to many unveiled individuals that are very much expressionless, are they not capable of having a human conversation?

How can you compare the problems faced by youth who wear hoodies in Bluewater compared to veiled women?

Our good buddies in France tried to do this and there were riots by the so called "religion of peace." I heard today that over 2,500 police have been hurt in France in the past year.

So yes. We should ban this dress item because we need to know who these people are. How do we know if Saddam or mohammed is not a Islamic cross dresser?

You are just filled with Christ's love aren't you? When veiled woman start behaving like hoodlums, you might have a case. Until then, get over it.

Your point is valid. I have no doubts some young yobs in hoodies think it is part of their religion. I see no difference in how someone hides their face only that Muslims view of their religion is different to hoodies. Words are fine but to see the face say the words will give you the truth.

Okay here goes no the veil should not be banned. And as for the other answerer who said they were proud to be muslin ,well that is real good. And if you knew anything of what you are talking about rape is an act of violence not an act of how we dress!!!! And if you are so proud of being muslim go back and talk against your country and see what happens to you.

Its no point banning it but I wouldn't deal with any person who covered their face like that. I'd ask them to remove the veil so I could speak to them face or face or otherwise I would refuse to have any dealings with them.

They look horrible and give me the creeps.

And any woman who assumes that just because she shows her face she'll be raped is crazy, deluded, stupid, on drugs or all of the above!!!!!

Fascinating...I'm a grandma who wears hoodies. Would they let me in? How about if I wave my Platinum Card at the door?

Whats next, little boys wearing Yarmulkes getting the boot? No item of religious wear should be ridiculed. That is a mark of intolerance.

don't think the veil should be banned but i don't like it. the main point is that it is not an Islamic garment, it is a cultural one. even the hijab (headscarf) is not indisputably part of female muslim's garb. the verse in the quran that refers to this has just been twisted and translated by conservative males for hundreds of years.

it should be up to the establishment involved if they wish to ban people with veils. Jack Straw, has asked people wearing veils not to wear them when they speak to him, that is his right, but they have the right not to remove them, that's because we live in a free society.

Forbidding the veil as Constitutional implications since it impinges on freedom of religion. Banning hoodies does not.

girls wearing a veil covering their faces should be banned just as girls half naked should also be banned from shopping centers not on religious grounds but on security and social grounds.Your comment however shows your intolerance to other beliefs.Remember that other communities have their beliefs which may differ from yours .You should not call them ridiculous. Some people do not find it nice for girls to walk in public with their naked ugly bellies stretched outside .

The way girls dress (or should I say, "undress"), I think it would be good for people to wear those veils.
2006-10-06 13:17:40 UTC
Why are you now suddenly so intolerant and affronted by women wearing veils? For gods sake, get a life.
