Anyone who puts a bulls-eye on a politician is wrong, whether it comes from the left or the right.
But let’s not make a false pretense of balance when it comes to violent rhetoric or violent imagery. It’s coming, overwhelmingly, from the right. It’s hard to imagine a Democratic member of Congress urging constituents to be “armed and dangerous” without being ostracized; but G.O.P rising star Michele Bachmann, did just that. Sharron Angle suggested using "second amendment remedies" against those who win at the poles if you don't agree with them, and a similar suggestion was made by Allen West's Chief of Staff, who said that "If ballots don't work, bullets will." Gabby Gifford's political opponent Jesse Kelly invited supporters to "shoot a fully automatic M16 to get on target for victory". And on and on it goes. And this is coming from their POLITICIANS. When do you ever hear similar talk from the Democratic politicians?
There’s also a HUGE contrast in the media. Listen to Rachel Maddow or Keith Olbermann, or Bill Maher, or Cenk Uygur, and you’ll hear a lot of caustic remarks and mockery aimed at Republicans. But you won’t hear jokes about shooting government officials, or beheading a journalist at The Washington Post (Bill O'Reilly), or saying things like, "My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times building." (Anne Coulter). Listen to Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh or Bill O’Reilly, and you will, pretty much on a daily basis.
It takes an awful lot of research on the part of right-wingers to come up with examples of people on the left using such imagery or references. It takes leftists about five minutes to come up with hundreds of examples of it coming from the right. For every one example you can come up with of a democrat or a leftist talking like that, we can come up with fifty examples of it coming from someone on the right.
