Question:
If Republicans refuse to compromise on tax increases and force a default, are they in any way fit to govern?
2011-07-05 09:06:28 UTC
our country?

If a default occurs, interest rates will rise immediately choking any economic growth.
Because to this unemployment will soar lowering tax revenue and put us into an economic death spiral.

Is this Lunatic Fringe of the Republican party qualified or fit to hold office?

Collectively, Americans own the majority of the public Treasury bonds in their IRA/401K, private and government pensions and trust funds, as well as mutual funds. Defaulting on the American citizens would be political suicide.

You have raise taxes across the board, AND cut spending if you are serious about reducing the debt.

If the debt ceiling isn't raised and we default on the debt it rather is going to be the call of the administrative branch. The president gets to come back to a determination what gets paid. He could make the choice to provider the debt on the rate of alternative costs. So he can choose for to pay the debt provider and not execute on all those "great business enterprise" subsidies that the lefties hate lots, or protection contracts or something. not raising the debt ceiling does not recommend default, purely a necessary balanced budget and a few confusing alternatives for our "leaders". The dems prefer tax will develop and the repubs prefer cuts. I prefer extra cuts than taxes - yet regardless, there is not any reason a answer won't be able to be reached without increasing the debt. This appears like a stable risk to unmask the human beings who rather income from runaway debt on the rate of this u . s . a .'s destiny.

Anyone who says the Democrats are not compromising is dead wrong. "Consider how far they've come: The Obama administration has agreed to a debt-ceiling deal that's 83% spending cuts and 17% tax increases -- mere inches away from the magic 83:15 ratio that the Republicans on the Joint Economic Committee asked for back in March. " The GOP continues to be the party of NO.

It won't happen. Obama will pay the bills and leave a constitutional crises which will take years to settle. It is just as well. When Congress approves a deficit budget, the debt raise is a mathematical certainty, not an issue for discussion. Both parties have used this to torture their opponents and it is time it stops.

Because the tax increased would decrease revenue, and the debt being built up is much more damaging than a default.

How do those who don't understand those easy to understand realities in any way fit to govern? Or even cast an intelligent vote?

If democrats are unwilling to compromise and avoid punishing those who create jobs, are they in any way fit to govern? Is the economically illiterate base of the democrat party qualified or fit to hold office or should they just stick to working in animal control?

The Republicans are going to wait until the last minute so as to embarrass the Obama administration as much as possible. This is their way of trying to pin the national debt on the Democrats. It's dirty politics but it could get even worse if they actually refuse to compromise.

As you described, it would be economic suicide.

Let's put this in perspective:

We, you and I, are spending FAR more than we need to or should.

At this time, I tell you we need to spend MORE.

You tell me to stop spending our money so carelessly and to cut back.

I say that I need to make YOU put more of the money in my pocket so I can spend it.

If you don't put more in my pocket, and I refuse to stop spending, I could default on my credit cards and end up in trouble.

I tell you: I want five thousand dollars of your money.

You tell me to go away.

I tell you: I want a thousand dollars of your money.

You tell me to go away.

I tell you...and here's the kicker...

...You are UNFIT to have that money or control it because you will MAKE ME default on my loans and refuse to COMPROMISE! I wanted five-thousand. I settled for ONE THOUSAND! What is WRONG WITH YOU?

Your argument is lunatic fringe. SO is theirs.

ENOUGH SOCIALISM.

It's time for the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America, of which Pelosi and Frank are both members along with hundreds of fellow workers in our government) (research it, folks, I've been following their efforts for years) to go BACK to the socialist party.

Enough of them.

When has any socialist wanted a capitalist system to succeed? They WANT it crashed.

They never were fit to run the country. Why would any intelligent person think that has changed?

The economy is still too poor to support tax increases. If you were to study economics, you would find that the rule is to raise taxes during the boom time and decrease taxes during bust times.

The Dems have totally destroyed the economy, it is time to stick with the tried and proven methods.

Tell me what compromises any Democrat has offered before you insist that Republicans are the only one being obstructionists.

Obama said that continually raising the debt ceiling was a sign of the failure of government.

Now you're saying that if they don't do it they aren't fit to govern.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Actually it would be the Democrats refusing to compromise and we already know that the Democrats in DC are not fit to govern anything..
2011-07-05 09:09:51 UTC
Its simply a matter of saying enough is enough when it comes to the reckless and irresponsible spending from this administration.

They are the most worthless unproductive congress in history.
2011-07-05 09:13:50 UTC
how does raising taxes help the economy?
