Why are radical muslims who attack U.S. troops called insurgents and U.S. troops are not?

If you are going to answer this question with some pointless rant or insult, please take your hostility elsewhere. I am asking a serious question, and if you can't handle it, that's your problem, not mine. And mindless responses just reveal that the responder is incompetent. The question is 'why does the American media call the radical muslims who attack Americans and Iraqis 'insurgents' while they never refer to U.S. military or private contractors 'insurgents.' The U.S. invaded Iraq first, after all. Not only that, the U.S. government called its increase in troop deployments a 'surge' which is taken straight from the word 'insurgency.' What the radical muslims are doing in Iraq is disgusting as far as I'm concerned, but why not call a spade a spade?

I'll not get into it with you or anyone else. Simply put, we occupy the land and control the bases and logistics. We have air and ground superiority with open lines of supply. So to be correct our troops would be called an occupying force, whereas they would try strikes and insurgency to topple our might. Since they are from another area....insurgents. They don't have the strength or numbers to become an occupying force.

The American troops are Liberators. On the side of the Iraq people , wishing and fighting for the people of Iraq to be free and have a better life than the one under the evil dictatorship of Saddam.

They are not the insurgents there.

Basically the 'insurgents' are not recognized by Iraq as anything other than rebels. Read a definition once in a while...

An insurgency, or insurrection, is an armed uprising, or revolt against an established civil or political authority. Persons engaging in insurgency are called insurgents, and typically engage in regular or guerrilla combat against the armed forces of the established regime, or conduct sabotage and harassment in the land in order to undermine the government's position as leader.

The US forces are NOT involved in an armed uprising, or revolt against an established civil or political authority, they are establishing the new one in cooperation with the recognized Iraq government and people.

Maybe because that is calling a spade a spade.By the way whats your goal other than to try to insult our intelligence, when you are the one doing the mindless response to our successfull efforts to liberate Iraq from insurgents, with the dribble of the Left.Or whatever direction you follow.

The radical Muslims who attack U.S. troops are called insurgents in AMERICA.

The U.S. troops who kill the "insurgents" are called an EQUIVALENT of "insurgent" in ARABIC or any other language the "insurgents" speak in THOSE OTHER COUNTRIES.

I guess this is how things are. People have to attack their enemies not only physically, but also psychologically, no matter why they became each other's enemies in the first place.

The radicals are not "insurgents"..they are friggin TERRORISTS !!!!!!

The majority of them come from outside Iraq, so they aren't even fighting in their own land.

As for our troops...how dare you even consider comparing them to those gutless cowards they are fighting? Call a spade a spade ? OK, if you think our troops are in the same league, and you are American, then you are a traitor/enemy sympathizer. There's your spade calling.

3 tours USMC, Vietnam, Desert Storm Era, & reserves makes my response not mindless incompetant drivel, unlike liberal hogwash !

Because the definition of a insurgent is and I quote a person who revolts against against civil authority or a established government. US troops are not. They are operating at the behest of the Iraqi government.

According to my Doubleday Dictionary:

insurgent

adj. Rising in rebellion against an existing government.

noun. One who takes part in active opposition to constituted authorities.

So the insurgents in Iraq are the ones fighting against and trying to destroy the democratically elected goverment. Yes, they are also fighting against US and Coalition troops. But they are insurgents because they are against the Iraqi government (which we are supporting), not because they are trying to defend their homeland since we "invaded Iraq first, after all."

Get a dictionary and look up insurgent. Are you really that ignorant?
2007-10-01 20:18:41 UTC
Because they are insurgents. They don't want to see Iraq succeed.

They call US troops insurgents to themselves, I'm sure. Each side is the enemy to each other, that's how they refer to each other.

Okay, so what do you think they call US troops?? Please gloss over you answer, it will make us all sleep better.
