Question:
What will Dem's do if they push Rush off public airwaves via the "Fairness" Doctrine but his fame/reach surges?
2009-02-01 09:33:01 UTC
and his number of listeners only grows via XM satellite radio, internet radio broadcasts/podcasts, magazines, and other media venues?

We should never allow the Fairness Doctrine to come about. Just another one of our liberties abolished if it were to happen.

As for Rush he has a large audience and obviously is quite popular. He has very good ratings. Why should any radio show have restrictions as far as their opinion goes. If people do not like his view why doesn't someone from the other side create their own show. They could do that rather than complain. It all fair game isn't it.

Oprah has her show

Ellen DeGeneres and the View

Yes, the more people harp about Rush the more people will tune him in out of curiosity. Gee they might learn something!

I can't believe that so many of those that responded can be as ignorant of the facts as they are.... so I just assume that they are lying.

1. MANY Democrats have brought up the "fairness doctrine".

2. There is nothing "fair" about it. All it says is that NPR, CBS, NBC and ABC can lie all they want about conservatives, but if a private citizen wants to make his views known, then the radio station has to put the other side on without having them pay the full price for it.

3. When CBS was caught in lies about Bush's National Guard records for instance, since they are a "News Organization" (chock, coff, gag), THEY didn't have to put the same amount of airtime toward telling the truth about it after they were caught. If a private Citizen such as Rush tells the truth about a politician, the radio station will be forced to air an equal amount of time for the liberals to tell lies and they wont be paid for that airtime.

It is certainly an attempt at squelching the conservative voice. The problem becomes the solution in this case. Government doesn't do anything well. It will fail. Like squeezing a balloon, it will bulge out somewhere else. The voices of freedom will be heard and heeded.

The Fairness Doctrine has NOTHING to do with pushing people off the air. It's about "fair and balanced." Ring a bell? No, I thought not, since Faux Snewz is neither.

Besides, there's not not a crane big enough to fit inside Radio WKKK that could push him ANYWHERE, the obese drug-addled fatmouthed fascist comedian that he is. The best way to affect him would be for people who are honest and loving in their hearts is to write a POLITE letter to ALL of his sponsors, saying that you, your family, your friends, your co-workers, your Scout troop and your church group are boycotting that sponsor's products BECAUSE the company sponsors Limbaugh.

That is exercising YOUR 1st Amendment right. It's also voting with your feet and your pocketbook. It's the essence of free-market capitalism: not buying something that you don't need and don't want. And NO BAILOUT for The Big Guy, either. Harrumph!!!!!

Hit him where it hits: he's just a money-whore anyway. I'd bet dollars-to-donuts that if he were to be offered $50 million a year to spew communist dogma, he'd switch faster than Larry "Wide Stance" Craig's feet did when he heard "You're under arrest."

Rush has peaked, kind of like Jerry Springer. The show goes on but it doesn't have the draw that it once did. He may still have the top rated talk radio show but two NPR shows are tied for second and ahead of all of the conservative shows, some by a wide margin. That explains why right wing radio hosts are constantly going out of their way to slam NPR.

I don't think that they will have time to worry about Rush. All the lawsuits coming in from the rest of the media world wide. Yeah I think they will be to busy to even breath.LOL

If the censure the media we will be taking a large step toward Dictatorship. I know a lot of people will dis agree with this. The freedom of press was a hard won fight and I don't see them giving that up.

This is one more example of the rights that Americans are losing. The Freedom of Press.

If we allow them to silence Rush ( weather you like him or not) we lose our Freedom of Speech. That is so important. That was also a hard won battle and I don't want to lose my Freedoms!

You want to know who is wanting the Fairness Doctrine back? Nancy Palosi wants it back, along with Al Gore, and many other Democrats, including but not limited to Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Dick Durbin, Dianne Feinstein, and Barbara Boxer.

http://www.aim.org/aim-column/pelosi-support-return-of-fairness-doctrine/

Want proof that there is legislative action?

Here is the bill

http://www.house.gov/hinchey/issues/mora.shtml

And here is the one to stop it from being reinstated

http://demint.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=PressReleases.Detail&PressRelease_id=b21a8827-daa8-cfc0-cb35-5849cc7b2868

If there was no attempt at reinstating the Fairness Doctrine, there would be no bill filed to prevent it.

The fairness doctrine is an attack on the first amendment, guised as "fairness".

Maybe some of you know it all who say nobody is trying to bring back the fairness doctrine should read the news once in a while. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi support it

from article:

“Do you personally support revival of the ‘Fairness Doctrine?’” I asked.

“Yes,” the speaker replied, without hesitation

Hopefully, the Dems will be defeated in 2010, the same way as the Republicans were defeated in 2006. They, the Dems, will LOSE!!!

It will never happen, the more they push Rush, the more popular he becomes. Give the Democrats more power and they will have us in such a mess, God will be gone forever, every factory will have a union, the old welfare system would be put back in place, Pro - choice will become pro- abortion anytime and paid for by the USA in Mexico. You get the picture!

The thing about enterprising individuals -- is they are in fact enterprising. You block them at one venue -- they'll find an alternate route.

The "fairness doctrine" only ensures that we'll throw more good money after bad. If liberal media was cherished, the free-market would demand they own a share.

It punishes the very people who consumers pay to listen to and comes quite close to mimicking a police state -- silencing the very people consumers like -- the ones that pull the ratings.

I doubt Limbaugh's going anywhere anytime soon.

I always wondered about the Fairness Doctrine. It seems to assume there are only 2 ways of looking at anything. That's rarely true. So who decides what's "fair"?
2009-02-01 09:42:14 UTC
Why do you ask? If you pay attention when Democrats give their Congressional floor speeches, you already know they intend to use government force to control all of those outlets as well.

If they can do it without inciting a rebellion, they WILL literally criminalize dissent. They SAID they would. Democrat voters keep saying Democrats are a bunch if filthy liars and would never really do it but I believe them.

The biggest mistake has already been made when Obama took issue with the freedom of speech of a man he disagrees with.

Nice hope but do you remember a guy named Howard Stern? Because since he went over to satellite radio, the majority of Americans don't.

I THINK THIS SO-CALLED FAIRNESS DOCTRINE WILL IF PASSED LEAD TO THE DOWN FALL OF THE DEMOCRATS IN 2010.
2009-02-01 09:41:05 UTC
Will they dare outrage so many people with their attempt to silence opposing viewpoints.

There must be something in the Whistle Blowers Act that protects people from governmental retaliation when exposing corruption.

He would not be pushed off.

The only good thing I could see from it is that if either side lied they would have to pay fines. Oh, I see what you mean now. Never mind. He would be pushed off.

Comedy like Rush is hard to find.

Why do people keep talking about the "Fairness Doctrine"? Has any politician suggested re-instating it? So far, it seems like a straw-man that Rush invented so he'd have something to b**** about.

Not one question I've seen posts any sort of evidence that there is any political move on this... but please, if you have any real information on this, let me know.
2009-02-01 09:36:59 UTC
Who cares? Rush can say what he wants. The fairness doctrine isn't about pushing a demagogue off the air, it's about EQUAL TIME for both sides. Why are you so scared of that?
2009-02-01 09:40:41 UTC
Rush is an annoying bigot, I pity whoever has such little brain cells left that they actually believe anything that man says.
2009-02-01 09:36:47 UTC
Notice that only the conservatives are concerned about the fairness doctrine and that is because all the other stations are fair and balanced. News Corp and it's affiliates are blatantly republican. Oh and no one will get shut down if the Fairness Doc goes through.
