Question:
Shouldn't we get rid of welfare so the poor will pull themselves up by their own bootstraps?

One time some liberal told me that nearly half of the people in the United States are now "poor or low income", that half of college graduates are under or un-employed, and that 1 in 4 Americans has a job paying under $10 an hour.

What this means is that about half the people in the US are now choosing to get jobs that don't pay very well. It didn't used to be that way. My entire graduating class of 1955 all pulled ourselves up into the Middle Class right after high school. My friend who worked in a shoe factory had a house with a 2 car garage before he turned 25.

If half the people in the US are now poor or low income then that means that more people are choosing to work at McDonalds and the laundromat than ever before. They make this choice because today they can get food stamps and Obamaphones. Welfare actually is what causes people to be poor and dependent on the government.

So to fix this mess, we need to abolish welfare, food stamps, and all other government entitlement programs. The poor will actually be better off if we do this. Because then they'll be forced to get good jobs.

Also, everyone knows that employers hire more people when the minimum wage is lower. So another thing that we can do to help out the poor, besides ending welfare and food stamps, is to reduce the minimum wage. That way there will be more jobs available for them.

Us conservatives have the answers to all of society's problems, and our ideas make perfect logical sense. Now if only liberals would get out of the way and let us run the show for once.....

Right because to make poor people more likely to succeed we should make then even more poor. Wow dude you should run for president.

People don't choose to work for minimum wage. You went to college in the mid 20th century, college was affordable then. Until 1974 any student in CA could go to college for free. The way the government gest more money is by raising tuition rates and driving students further and further into debt. I'm assuming you're white so life is pretty easy when you're families been here for the past 200 years. The increase of immigration leads to more people working minimum wage because they lack the education and language skills needed to ruse to middle class. As for the lazy people, blame the parents.

The school system is what needs to change. Better education produces better opportunity. How can you expect an uneducated person to work in a corporate office?

It's a well known fact that FOX news makes people dumber.

"The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so." Ronald Reagan

The Liberal ideology is a theory which holds forth beliefs that have no basis in reality.

They are Advocates of a policy that empowers a strong government to enslave its people with a high tax burden incident to the support of extravagant and unnecessary social programs destructive to both the work ethic among the lower class, and the incentive to innovate and succeed among the working class.

The problems we face today are because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by those who vote for a living.

A democracy will continue to exist up until

the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous

gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority

always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from

the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally

collapse over loose fiscal policy

A broken government can't be fixed by the same government that broke it.

Most liberals have no idea how compassionate these sort of policies are. Giving the lazy welfare leeches a chance at self respect through hard work at minimum wage will make them much happier. It will also encourage the Job Creators to create more of these jobs. A win win situation for all involved. too bad our liberal neighbors are such cretins and unable to see the world for what it is.

"Fox news", you're a real 'jackass'. I am FORCED to be on welfare, even though I'd rather work, simply because My job of 15 years went to Mexico, and, I became unemployable because of my age, ( I will be 80, in four weeks), also , I have had bypass surgery, so, I must rely on food stamps (I get a whole $16.00 per month -- that's $4.00 per week. no thanks to 'Obummer'), and I get help with my rent (one bedroom apartment). I live from social security check to social security check. At the end of the month I'm lucky if I have $30.00 left. Plus, I drive an nine year old Chevy.

You shouldn't condemn those of us who MUST live on government assistance if you don't know anything about it. Admittedly there are "free-loaders" that cheat the system, but many who really need help don't need to be 'bad-mouthed'.

No, the real problem lies at hand of the NAFTA bill shafting people of careers at manufacturing plants that made domestic products. Most of those plant jobs are in China now. thanks to both sides of the aisles. The blame also comes for those who create the jobs to require at least 2-3 degrees from colleges. So. How is a GED-grad student suppose to find work and live on measly dollars before being raped by taxes? They have almost no income or bills to pay and less to afford food. It's hard. I have experienced it years ago. Help is the only way to pull yourself out of the debt or hardships or give up things that are above your means.

Most of the people on welfare are single parents. As good as your idea sounds, it is not very feasible, and in the end, the kids suffer the most.

There aren't enough jobs out there for everyone. That is why we have a high unemployment rate right now.

You don't have answers. You have bullshlt ideas

All able bodied people should work. Whether that work is community service or picking up trash on the roads...everyone who collects a paycheck should do something for it.

**I believe in taking care of the disabled (not the fake ones), the elderly, and our Vets. Welfare mothers should be stopped from breeding.

Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:

a.. creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;

b.. satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation;

c.. augmenting primitive feelings of envy;

d.. rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.

"The roots of liberalism - and its associated madness - can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind," he says.

"When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious."

I think you have asked this before. Now I will give you the same answer. Doing away with the welfare is not going to get those people jobs. It will just put more homeless people on the streets.

Without government welfare programs that put band aids on our problems we would have a minimum wage of $15 an hour and universal health care decades ago.

NO the only reason me and my mom and brother survived when I was a kid was because of welfare, we literally had nothing. No family, no nothing, and that was the time when the recession started hitting full force so my mom couldnt find a job and couldnt find anyone to watch us either, so no. That is dumb, dont be so damn selfish.

"I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I traveled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer."
