Question:
Why are Republicans opposed to saving money through competitive market bidding?
2013-06-29 10:08:19 UTC
The Obama administration implemented the “Competitive Bidding Program for Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics and Supplies,”

Despite Congressional pressure and lobbying from the home care and medical device industries, the Obama administration isn’t backing off from plans to proceed with a program designed to save billions of dollars on everything from diabetes testing devices and wheelchairs for seniors.

The industry has been spending millions of dollars on lobbying and advertising o stop competitive bidding.

QUESTION:
If Obama is such a socialist bent on destroying America, then why is he trying to save the government money through a competitive biding process to supply products and services to Medicare?

QUESTION:
If Republicans are so supportive of free markets and capitalism, then why do they want to continue with the existing programs that are not transparent and do not allow for competitive bidding?

Republican Paul Ryan opposes the market driven Medicare competitive bidding that would shrink government and reduce the deficit.

Why do Republicans oppose the free market?

That's not the problem... The problem is all the pork barrel spending in union states that have nothing to do with medical expenses.. Such as 300m for child bowling programs.

The competitive bidding program was put in place by Bush

And due to obama care there are concerns of price setting by government

Read all of the article from your cut and paste and you will have your answer

Congress and the industry say the bidding process has been “mishandled” and the process lacks transparency, citing issues unrelated to cost-savings or quality such as “the improper vetting of the financial wherewithal of many firms that have been awarded contracts to service many bid areas far from their current base of operations,” according to a letter signed by more than 200 members of Congress, including former Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan, the House Budget Committee chairman.

“Democratic signatories of the letter are questioning a key part of President Obama’s health-care law, for which most of them voted,” The Post said. “The Republicans, many of them tea party backbenchers, are resisting a market-based alternative to government price-setting. Their proposed delay could add to the federal deficit.”

There's NOTHING "free market" about a government program.

" Despite Congressional pressure and lobbying from the home care and medical device industries, the Obama administration isn’t backing off from plans to proceed with a program designed to save billions of dollars on everything"

Government, much less the obama administration, has never saved money, neither millions or billions of dollars, anywhere at any time and this program will prove to be no different. If anything, this is going to cost us billions more. Count on it. How many times must you be taken in by this charade of government promising to save us money only to cost us money?

Have you ever dealt with procurement when dealing with government agencies and how underhanded things are? I have, many times.

Who generally writes the bidding outlines? BIG business does and they write it in such a way that nobody can compete against them. As a result, we (the taxpayers) get stuck paying much higher prices and that is a fact.

Their natural way is to cheat. To work systems. To abuse loopholes. Transparency is the last thing greedy capitalists want.

I’m a capitalist - just not a greedy one, so I’m good with a transparent, level playing field. Keeps my competitors more honest.

It’s why I support regulations. Without them, I’d be out of business...because the cheaters always win when there are no rules. And I’m not a cheater.
