How many of you are aware that the draft was introduced by the Democrats?

Bush's adviser stated "the draft was worth a look". Here is the quote: "I think it makes sense to certainly consider it," Army Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute. (He said this on NPR, note he is not an elected official.)

House Democrat Rangel introduced this bill in to legislation and tried to get it passed in 2003. Note: Chuck IS an elected official.

They seem to think that if the draft is enacted then conservatives will back off of supporting the war...the all volunteer military apparently did not give them a clue that sometimes people do the right thing even at great personal cost.

exciting. especially the diverse subtler provisions. case in point, the bill purely applies "for the duration of wartime". meaning an actually conflict declared by Congress, not an Authorization for using militia tension, it particularly is what we've in Iraq and Afghanistan. yet despite if toddlers are not particularly being drafted, the perceived risk of being drafted could reason a serious political backlash against further militia action, basically like it did the final time replaced into had a draft.

Under Republican President Abraham Lincoln, men were drafted into the Union Army to put down the rebel insurrection. Later out of necessity the draft was instituted again during WWI and not removed until quite recently when it was thought that our modern weaponry was supposed to make it so we don't need as many people to fight because of the gizmos, gadgets and machines we have developed. Without such gizmos etc. you can bet we would still have a draft. If Bush's little war escalates or continues much longer we may have no choice but to draft people. They have to come from somewhere.

Charlie Rangel introduced the bill for the draft, in 2003, prior to the invasion of Iraq. His purpose was to jolt Americans into realizing the import of a possible unilateral strike against Iraq, which he opposed, and "to make it clear that if there were a war, there would be more equitable representation of people making sacrifices." Rangel is a good man and a sensible politician.

How many of you are aware that when people in the US say things like, "The Democrats said this.....or The Republicans said that" it does nothing but divide the country....my guess is that we have too many self-righteous bosses and not enough employees....we are in the same country you know--how about something sensible for Americans regardless of political opinions??

How many realize it was introduced by Democrats as a way to point out the deficiency of the military vis a vis Dumbya's war strategy?

The draft was introduced by Abraham Lincoln, under the name conscription, and was in place into the 1970's.

However, Lincoln immediately had his son declared exempt.

If you cons want perpetual war, somebody's gonna have to fight and die in it.
