Question:
Why do people take Fox News seriously?
2008-06-03 06:17:30 UTC
Why can't people see that Fox is more akin to tabloid news like Entertainment Tonight or Extra? Fox isn't professional journalism in any shape or form.

Because it tells them what they want to hear.

Most conservatives live with blinders on and they won't admit it. Fox is happy to filter everything it says so it fits into those blinders.

Makes it ok to hate one group or another, or blame anyone else but themselves.

EDIT: As for those who claim Fox has never shown anything but fair and balanced news...

Apparently a lot of people in America do! But Fox News unbiased? Not likely. Although they say they are. You can't get more conservative than Fox New! This network do more bashing of the current administration than any other network. I know for a fact that most of my Republican friends watch this station pretty exclusively. I'm an independent so I can bash the Republicans and Democrats alike. So if you are a conservative and need an ego boost, go watch Fox News that will perk you up! Really it does...You should see my friends...

Why take any news serious these days??? They are biased one way or another even with the newspapers they don't just report news, many stories these days are more of the reporters opinion on the subject rather than just plain facts. At least fox has the balls to put liberals and conservatives on at the same time in every show, it's more fair and balanced than msnbc where you have chris matthews and three people who echo his opinion the whole show and he has the nerve to call it hardball lol, or cnn where before the 2006 elections it was 24/7 broken government and they slammed the republicans nonstop while never so much as mentioning the dems. It's all tabliod today you never hear any good news about anything they all are looking for ratings and all the networks cater to a crowd so I'm proud to say I'm glad fox news is there for people like me because I'm sick of the dan rathers etc of the world!

Man, there are some ridiculous answers on here.

All of the news is biased. But it's not a "liberal bias" as the Faux News pundits would have you believe. The media is decidedly "neo-con biased". Biased toward war, globalization and the corporate agenda.

You can't call it "conservative bias", because true conservatives are for small government, free press and no war.

Their favorite phrase is "some people say........." which is a propaganda tool used to get whatever point they want out there without having to really back it up with sources.

It's nothing but a big propaganda machine set up by Murdock to suck up to the neo-cons as they fleece our nation without anyone noticing.

Except we are noticing. They're all crooks.

MOst entertainment new media is not professional journalism, it is commentary for the purpose of entertainment. Fox included.

News media is about ratings, it is about appeasing advertisers, it is about the acclaim, it is about making more money. Very rarely is news media about the truth.

The same reason why the 'sheeple' drank the Kool Aid of the right for the last eight years. Non-thinking people, who believe what their told to believe, and embrace it. Fox was created for the 'herd' mentality, and believe me, they DO believe it.. They take a tiny bit of truth,,distort it ,twist it, magnify the twist, and before long,,it doesn't even resemble truth!! But the 'sheeple' love it..Your observation of "TABLOID NEWS"is dead on ,,and I compliment you for it !! SOLOMON Edit:: I forgot,,Fair and Balanced,,Fair and Balanced ,,Fair and Balanced,, believe it yet?? Fair and Balanced,,Fair and Balanced,,Fair and Balanced,,not yet,,Fair and Balanced,,Fair and Balanced!! Congratulations,,your not one of the 'brain dead zombies' with the 'herd 'mentality,,mindlessly wandering through the corridors of stupidity.. I wonder how many more of us are out there ???

For the most part, I do not take FauxNews that seriously ("For Entertainment Purposes Only). More disturbing is that a huge swath of its fans actually do. Instead of just reporting the news, its anchors (not just the blowhard punditry) take it upon themselves to actually FEEL the news for their most ardent supporters. Thus, it is no suprise that FNC's biggest fans will come out of the woodwork to defend the obvious slants and biases of NewsCorp while criticizing other "liberal" mainstream outlets for supposedly utlizing those same tactics.

I don't see a big difference in the cable networks' news. They all deliver the news in a similar fashion, so if you criticize FoxNews, your compaints would also hold true for CNN and MSNBC.

Incidentally, in a study at Geo Mason U, Fox News was deemed to be more fair than the other networks, and actually easier on Hillary, and harder on Republicans, at least in a comparison of the nightly news broadcasts.

Personally, I watch CNBC. Business news is always much more objective (the money doesn't lie!) - also, they don't get into all the bltching over social issues - and if they do, it's always good-natured.

Bill O'Reilly's format is awful, for the reasons you state. I can't even watch the whole episode. He should stop talking about celebrities and focus on the middle east.

"You’ll never go broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public." P T Barnum

Fox News is doing well.
2008-06-03 06:32:16 UTC
For the same reason people see Bush as an intelligent man. I know the conversation is over when the Fox news watcher starts comparing Fox news to CNN.

Trust me I know CNN has their problems too but there is no comparison in which is more news worthy.

Yeah, and Keith Olbermann is Walter Kronkite. Get a life
2008-06-03 06:35:22 UTC
Yup they are not professionals, they have specific agenda. Its biased and never balanced. Fox News is famous with the name "Conservative news network" , Other News networks are not called "Liberal new network". It defines the motive of fox.

I never watched them until libs here ranted about them. I do not see a difference between them and any other news service. If they are so bad why are they rated #1 77 months in a row now.

Could it be that people with brains know the truth when they hear it.

I guess coming from a cool aid drinker you would think that way. FOX is fair and balanced and gives both sides. All the so called main stream networks are nothing but Obama cheerleaders and are a disgrace to real network news. If a Republican had radical ties and had said some of the things Obama has said they would be made to look really bad by the network smear machines. Just look at how they jumped on the Scott McClellan's smear book. I want to know more about Obama and his radical views but it might make him look bad so they want report it.....

they;ve got TMZ on there, if that doesn't tell you something, nothing will. If the masses are so stupid shouldn't we be able to control them better?
2008-06-03 06:25:45 UTC
Becasue it fits their political sensibilities. Plus, people tend to be shocked into paying attention when people are screaming at them.
2008-06-03 06:24:25 UTC
Fox is the only news worthy of watching.

They have more viewers than all the others combined and then some. Harvard studies show they are fair and balanced by giving equal time to liberals and conservatives.
End The Fed!!!

Simple.....they are conditioned to believe it is "real news"

2008-06-03 06:23:31 UTC
are you kidding me? have you turned on MSNBC or CNN recently thats all it is. FOX News is the only news station that shares both sides of the everything including the election. They have both Republican and Democratic analysts and strategists on all the time to give everyone "Fair and Balanced News"

Because they have not yet been caught airing a story that was proven to be a hoax. In other words, you may not agree with their spin, but they still have more credibility than some other liberal spinning news broadcasts.
2008-06-03 06:20:24 UTC
And you think CNN isn't tabloid news???

You have to take all of them with a big ole grain of salt.

now everyone knows that liberals don't allow facts to get in the way so it's very easy to see why you wouldn't take fox news seriously. The facts just get in your way of your thinking.

Because its telling them what they want to hear.

Its the same reason I like Keith Olberman -- I like his slant on the news. But unlike the Fox News fans, I readily admit that my source is biased, rather than chanting "fair and balanced" as if it were a mantra.

Id bet $10 this guy doesn't even watch fox news.

Libs hate it because its fair and balanced. It has a bunch of liberal nutjob shows but it also has conservatives on it too.
