Hopefully, next year Republicans will have a majority in all 3 branches?

How long will it take them to pass a budget?

Reed is not allowing house budgets to come for a vote. Obama will veto them anyway because the word "cut spending" may appear. It's fascinating to watch Obama and Reed lie about a do nothing congress. It's even more fascinating the press isn't noticing the blatant hypocritical lies.

Before 2010, Democrats in congress hadn't passed a budget for over 1000 days. Now that the house has passed several budgets The Senate is holding them up.

The major issue is the economy. Sad fact is the Obama Dems do not have a clue. The Reps do, but they have to elect the right guy. Business is the only entity that can create economic wealth (inc. jobs). With the Dem stranglehold on business there is little incentive for business to cough up the bucks. The gov CANNOT CREATE the type of job which will produce economic wealth - all the government can do is to create an environment which will facilitate economic growth. It WOULD be a lot easier if the GOP had the presidency and both houses of congress.

Unless you get a 60 vote majority in the Senate, you're going to be stuck with the same filibuster we have been for the last 3 years, minus the first nine months.

If Republicans were to win all branches, we would be a third world country by June. There would be women and children begging on the street, prostitution would triple, we'd have to send meat wagons around chanting "bring out your dead!", and the corporations would all bring their factories home because now they would be able to pay Americans $3 a day. No one would be allowed to vote unless they signed a pledge to vote only for Republicans. Abortion would be banned, so there would be hundreds of thousands of new illegitimate babies being born every year that there would be no welfare for and half a million women would die in backstreet abortions.

Or, if the Republicans really got their way, we'd invade Iran on January 21 and WWIII would begin and there would no longer be any Republicans or Democrats!

Obama does not want a budget because he doesn't want to be accountable. He wants to continue to operate his administration like a regime. Newt would work to balanced balanced budget amendment if Republicans captured the house and senate. No way will 2/3 ever vote for it unless the congress is taken back by conservative forces in 2012.

Well, the SCOTUS is at the tipping point now with four conservatives (Not Republicans) Scalia, Thomas, Roberts and Alito so it only takes one.

The Republicans will also have to take the upper house in Congress and the executive to have all three branches.

EDIT

Smartypants makes a good point. I've voted Republican since Reagan but this new brand of radical conservatism turns my stomach. I'm more of a Reagan, Romney, Gingrich Republican.

The GOP is not as monolithic as it appears. I think it might have been more single-minded years ago, but not these days, there are too many competing interests.

The thing is, one party seldom has control over all three branches. So they have to negotiate, they have to compromise. In the last few years, Republicans have come to see compromise as capitulation. They simply expect to get everything they want, and if they can't they accuse the Democrats of 'obstructionism'. There's a difference between not being able to reach a compromise and refusing to even negotiate in the first place. And that's one of the differences between Democrats and Republicans. Democrats -want- to compromise, but the Republicans see that if anything positive is achieved through bipartisan cooperation, Obama gets most of the credit, so they refuse to cooperate in any way.

The Republican strategy with a Democrat in the White House is never ever to compromise, to block anything Democrats try to do, then bash them for being a Do-Nothing Congress or president. These days this is more and more obvious, so the press doesn't fall in line with them, except the Republican media--Fox News and right-wing talk radio.

And from where I sit (independent but liberal) the strategy doesn't seem to be working very well. I think the Repubs are headed for losses next November.

If the supreme court gets conservative the constitution will be saved. If the conservatives take over the house, senate and white-house the country will survive.

Unless a few Supreme Court justices die or retire, even the most optimistic person shouldn't expect to get a majority in all three branches.
