I wonder how the government distinguishes between private sector and public sector jobs?

Question

I am currently working for a private sector temporary labor service and have been placed in my local state college for work. So, am I working in the private or public sector?

As a side note, I have worked in the private sector for thirty years and have to say, the public sector is an eye-opening experience. Waste and inefficiency are rampant, wow!

Even though your are working, at a job, in the 'public' sector....you are being paid by a 'private' sector employer.

Public sector means the employer operates with a budget and does NOT make a profit.

Private sector means the employer is only in business to make a profit, however, can still operate within a budget.

The big difference is profit or no-profit.

Years ago, I also worked a temp job with a 'state' agency.....I just could not believe all of the waste and inefficiency....... One job, in particular, I was scheduled to be there for 8-hours. The work I was assigned to do took me 90-minutes to complete....the rest of the time I had to 'look busy' and just be there....I guess they were paying me to keep a chair warm......

My oldest son works for the 'state' but he is busy 8-hours a day...he's a prison guard and they are NOT allowed to do nothing.

Disaster relief is in most cases financed by Government carried out by private sector. I don't think you are suggesting these people should now put their hands in their pockets and find the money to rebuild .

I'm guessing that if the college cuts your paycheck, you're counted as working for the public sector.



I worked for the government one summer in a summer job, and yeah, it was inefficient. Nothing terrible, but the pace was leisurely and relaxed, to say the least.
