Question:
Why do liberals believe that if I support freedom of speech, that means I'm a "fascist"?

Many liberals have went on to say that because I support someone's RIGHT to say what they want, no matter how hateful it is (That includes the freedom to fly a Nazi flag or shout their opinions on a specific race) that somehow means I'm a fascist.

The way you look at things is way more fascist than how I look at it. I believe anyone should have the freedom to their own opinion on whatever they so wish, whether its a race, religion, or the country they live in. If you believe in suppressing someone's freedom of speech just because it might hurt someone's feelings or is deemed "too hateful" then you are the fascist.

Oh, and by the way, "hate speech" is actually protected under the first amendment (before I get a bunch of left-leaning idiots who don't know how the constitution works complaining about things they don't know about). The supreme court has declared it so: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/05/30/hate-speech-is-not-protected-by-the-first-amendment-oregon-mayor-says-hes-wrong/

If you are using your free speech to support and defend fascism I think it is safe for someone else to use their free speech to call you a fascist.

Actually the 1st Amendment protects your speech from government retribution.

It does not protect your speech from opposing viewpoints or opinions.

I take myself as a patriot, sworn to defend the constitution, bill of rights, and our democratic way of life.

Freedom of speech is one of those rights and support it.

Guess one could call me a mild fascist, I am very adamant in my stance.

Perhaps look up the definition of fascist, read and understand your rights.

I get a lot of chaff from so called liberals that are nothing more than socialist, extremist. The anti-American sort.

Guess what,,I don' give a $hit what they think of me. when they make impact on my self, my home, my country, that is when you find me in defense mode.

I sense this free speech issue is related to the anthem kneelers that call it free speech and is nothing of he sort.

There right times and places to exercise your rights to free speech and peaceful demonstration, During our anthem,is not one of them.

No afraid to say it like it is, if anybody is offended by that, tough f**king $****.

You want to fly a Nazi flag, go for it, but don't disrespect my countries flag doing so.

Freedom of speech means they get to call you a fascist if they so wish, it works both ways

I am pretty sure liberals support freedom of speech, and they ALSO (which are points you don't seem to understand) support the right of others not to listen to them and to face consequences (like being booted off a PRIVATE web service).

I was in 6th grade, back in the mid 70's when I first heard this exact argument. There was some sort of Nazi party in the US planning a march of some sort, I think it was down south somewhere but I'm not sure. We discussed it in class, that in the US, they had the right to march, to make speeches and such, as long as they had the proper permits and such. That right, to be and believe in whatever, was part of what made the US unique, made it the greatest nation on earth. I may not have fully understood what was going on, but the basic freedom to believe in what one wished, has always stuck with me. Seems to be something we have lost along the way.

If you sympathize with fascist regimes, both current and historical, how can anyone assume you are anything but a fascist?

The 1st Amendment guarantees you can not be arrested for the words you say or write. It does not mean you have a right to say whatever you want, whenever you want, wherever you want. Because I certainly have the right to say to you, "Take you signs and your bullhorn and get the fvck out of my yard!"

I'm pretty sure you have misstated the case on purpose. The reason people call you a fascist is because of what you post, not because of your ideals.

Liberals believe lies. It's just that simple. It's the liberal fascists who want to stop anyone who disagrees. Personally, I believe the best thing to do when Nazis and white supremacists start their rants: those who are listening should point and laugh. It's been done and it works. The First Amendment protects speech we don't agree with as much as it protects our right to speak publicly. Neither the Constitution, nor the Bill of Rights, protect people from being offended.

Supporting everyone's right to free speech is exact opposite of being a fascist.

The only fascists in this country are the leftwing zealots who stage "protests" to shut down debate and/or discussion and physically threaten those who hold a different viewpoint.

We don't. Freedom of speech is a foundational liberal value.

People don't call you "fascist" for supporting Nazis' freedom of speech, Mick, they call you "fascist" because they think you support Naziism. Probably because you ask questions like "Isn't it kinda weird that ANTIFA are good and Nazis are bad, yet ANTIFA wear masks and Nazis don't?".

people do what they want these days. man it' sad that peoples opinion matter so much! freedom is what you typed i might not like that fact that someone doesn't agree with me or who might be a racist or might hate the coorperation but thats what nice about america. we all have that right to think for ourselves.

and keep it to our selves but in the social times we are intoday. it seem slike everyone treats opinions as facts. rather sad.

i might not support your causes of hate or what not. but i'm not going to tell you what to do about it. seems like those who have those issues have a lto more going on in their life then me and i'm not wantting to play mommy any time soon. more so to an adult!

freedom of speech IS the core of liberalism... the oppression of freedom of speech is fascist.

However

Would you support my right of free speech to burn the US flag or fly it upside down or fly the IS flag (not that I would)... I doubt it, because when people cry because they cannot verbally abuse people of another race or religion they want to suppress the rights of others

They have nothing else to say. They are weak-minded fools who run to their corporate overlords and beg for protection via banning if anyone dares to disagree with them.

You can speak and demonstrate what you want to in public, but when you get up into someone's face it isn't protected.

I myself am a liberal, and while I disagree with the antics of many on the right, I do find the sensitivity of modern day liberals appalling. Republicans have a strong point when they bring this up. As J.S. Mill said himself, freedom of speech and thought leads to the greater ideas being favored and the stupid ones being outcasted. I myself am confident in my liberal ideology, so it really shouldn't be a problem if other people have "hate speech". I think ultimately the right ideas will shine and the stupid ones will falter.

Because this world has lots of dum people, obviously that doesn't make you facist and when they call you a facist they can't prove it in any way,so basicly there's nothing you can do
2018-08-10 17:29:59 UTC
I find it amusing that you spend your free time making up **** about what you want people to believe liberals think.
