why has the USA vetoed the resolution condemning the Israeli settlements?
?

doesn't international law state that these settlements are illegal yet the USA is vetoing the resolution - Why? Obama said in Cairo, if anyone can remember, that "The United States does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements [colonies]." So why do they continue to veto the resolutions? Who runs that country Obama or someone else because it looks like he doesn't have a say.

The whole world can plainly see the contradiction that is happening in the middle east on one hand you have the usa acting a peace negotiator and the other hand they are encouraging the one thing that is stopping peace - the settlements. i don't know why do you?

America should stay out of the business of other countries. Why do we need a resolution on this either way. Its not our concern.

"Israel may have become a punching bag for much of the world, but 50 million Americans back the Jewish state 100 percent, no ifs, buts or maybes.

As portrayed in the striking documentary “Waiting for Armageddon,” these supporters are Christian Evangelicals who are neither rural hicks nor ranting fanatics.

What they hold in common is an unshakeable faith that every inch of Israel/Palestine belongs to the Jews. “They want the Muslims to be evicted by the Jews, the Jews to rebuild the Temple of Solomon and then Christ to return and trump everyone,” one analyst explains in the film.

The action-backed beliefs of the Evangelicals confront most American Jews with a dilemma. They applaud the unstinting financial support to Israel from the Evangelical community, about $75 million annually, and even more its political clout and lobbying on behalf of the Jewish state.

But, the support comes with a theological price tag. At the end of days, after the final battle between good and evil on the plains of Megiddo in northern Israel, they believe, the Jews will either see the light and accept Jesus Christ, or die...."

Israel is an important US ally. And most americans have concerns about Israel being singled out for condemnation by the UN, when there are plenty of other nations in the region that murder and oppress their own people, and violate human rights (especially the rights of women and homosexuals) and don't receive any attention. Many of us believe these condemnations are rooted more in latent European anti-Semitism than any real concern for the palestinian people.

TO THE OP: One can be a critic of Israel and not be anti-Semitic. But the the fact that Israel gets singled out for criticism, is the subject of endless conspiracy theories regarding the supposed influence of Jews in US politics and Media, etc, while many arab nations blatantly violate women's rights and murder homosexuals (as well as persecute minority groups and oppress their own people) and escape criticism, indicates undo attention is placed on Israel over these other countries. Having traveled through Europe myself (and in the middle east), the level of anti semtitism in those places is much higher than in the US, and I have to wonder how much of this criticism is motivated by a latent hatred of Jews.

undergo in techniques that basically about all of UN resolutions against Israel have been further by way of the Arab block (in many cases with help from non-Arab Muslim countries). The non-aligned countries (i.e. third international countries) in many cases vote in synch with the Arab block for various political reasons. what's extra telling is that the Western democracies almost constantly the two abstain or vote against those resolutions. it is likewise exciting to be conscious that different considerable conflicts interior the international in many cases get disregarded by way of the UN, with the aid of comparable team of countries balloting down resolutions approximately them (i.e. Darfur).

The "one thing" is not that ....when the PALI scum RECOGNIZE Israels right to exist then the peace process can start...as far as the settlements they are NOT Illegal...the security council was condemning them for starting them but it is a reason to get the pali's to the table.if they are going to stall then Israel will build
