Question:
should we stop ALL benefits? What would happen if we did?

Would there be riots on the streets?

What I am suggesting is that we stop all welfare benefits to the poor and the old and the sick. Remove the state completely from any responsibility for helping those who would seek to claim assistance from the state.

What would happen if we did? Would there be famine and deaths on a grand scale? Would there be massive riots as the disaffected suffered hunger and launched attacks on local supermarkets for food? Would there be mass murder as rich people were killed in revenge for their "selfishness"

Would the army have to be brought in to try to restore order?

And would the rest of us breathe a great "halleluiah" as we get rid of the slimy toe-raggy beggered useless sons and daughters of bytches and losers?

You are too young to remember the poor houses and the workhouse. People slowly starved to death in them and they were cruelly treated. Many people would rather have starved to death rather than enter into one. Today, we have gone too far the other way....there is no way that anyone on welfare should be living better than those who have jobs....and they shouldn't be going on vacations or having fancy televisions, etc. If they do that, they are receiving too much money.

As for what you are proposing, do you think that the poor will just lie down and die? They are apt to rise up and burn and destroy anything that they can reach just so that the well-off feel their misery too. And there isn't enough military to stop them. Think long and hard about what you are proposing as once it is done, there is no going back...and the fabric of modern society will be torn beyond repair. Good luck and God bless.

Addendum: There is something that can be done...no non-citizen (failed refugee or immigrant) should be allowed to receive any kind of benefit at all (including medical or housing). If they fall on hard times, they should be sent back where they came from....end of story.

Vast numbers of people, including children, would simply starve to death if we stopped paying benefits altogether.

I'm not making it up, because all the signs are there already, if only we pay a bit more attention.

It's very easy for a government to persuade itself and the people that taking away say £50 per week from a family on benefits will help encourage them to seek work. It wont. But what it does instead is to make their poverty even worse and leads to hungry children. Hungry children cannot develop properly and have all manner of serious health problems - this in time puts a massive strain on the NHS, which is under constant attack by the Tories who only want to make it all private so they can own the shares and draw the profits.

If people want to live in a third world country, which the UK is increasingly looking like, then don't blame me.

So, you're suggesting we go the route of post-Soviet Russia. Remove literally everything. You do realize Russia then experienced a depression far worse than the Great Depression when this happened, right? There was a constitutional crisis, huge spikes in suicides, homicides, theft, etc. Median income dropped by more than a half. An entire generation became lost in a nation that no longer cared. Do you really wish this on so many people? Because if so, you need to evaluate your sanity.

Riots, with crime going through the roof. 2.5 million people are unemployed, many with families and many in public or private rental accommodation. Stop housing benefits and they are on the streets, stop other benefits and they can't buy food, clothes or anything else, so what would you expect them to do, starve to death or die of exposure.

We would see riots in this country like we have never seen before and quite rightly so.

Yeah, it would probably screw everything up like you said. I hate that are tax money goes to lazy people who are capable of working (and are ignorant as they don't seem to mind socialism and having the government take care or control them.) But i don't mind (me being a producer and not a receiver) paying for someone who actually has a disability or to some one who actually needs it. Its a complicated problem indeed that could only be solved with honor and duty (ain't happening), complete government control, or taking it away completely.

You know, maybe it's not a bad idea to cut off the benefits and make people reapply. There' d be a stipulation that any fraud would come with 50 years of hard time in a federal pen.
Huh?

There would not merely be riots but a general uprising, as huge mobs descended on the wealthy areas of our cities to take their revenge.

The system we have in place now is one of robbing peter to pay paul. Very primitive indeed. And the Labour Party think they are on the cutting edge where political thinking is concerned. Unbelievable. No, there must be a better way.

I don't think you realize how many people are on welfare. It's not a good idea in a country where wages have fallen below standard of living. We would look like Somalia. Why don't we kill everyone off but the wealthy. See how that would work out for you.

So,let me get this straight, you wouldn't mind adding a few digits to the deceased population stats if only to save(barely anything) on taxes? Really?

In 1996 Bill Clinton reduced the Welfare rolls by 58%. Fearing mass problems he followed what happened carefully. The economy flourished and the people cut flourished.

Lesson learned.

I think they would do a job search first before committing mass murder.

Is this really how you perceive working for a living?

Riots, looting, mass murder would be easier than getting a job?
