Does anyone notice the word 'OF.'

Not 'END LIFE Counseling,' but 'END OF LIFE COUNSELING.'

Does ANYONE even know what the word COUNSELING means?

Seriously, folks, End OF Life Counseling, is counseling to discuss what challenges people might face when they die. Guess what, people DIE _ - - - it happens and sometimes it happens because of illness and instead of simply dying WITHOUT A WILL, or any provisions whatsoever screws things up.

PEOPLE WAKE UP - - - - millions of you were glued to the television set weeping when Michael Jackson kicked over - - - guess what he did not make out a clear concise WILL, a clear guide as to his wishes should he happen to die. All that End OF Life Counseling does is to allow people actually encourage people to speak to their physician about matters such as hospice care, whether to use extraordinary means to prolong life (ventilators, forced feeding, massive doses of radiation, a person to actually stick a vacuum device up your ^ss to get rid of waste when your bowels fail, etc and etc).

I rant because over and over again I hear the massive 'sigh of relief' from people on this forum that 'that dreaded provision' will be removed from the bill. GADDS if anything proves that there is no Intelligent Life on EARTH then this is it.
End OF Life
not END LIFE.
Counseling as in helping people not forcing people to do something bad.
(People who bill themselves as Counselors must be committing suicide en mass right about now. Hasn't anyone in school been sent to the 'COUNSELORS' office?)

Yes I know what it is. My mother had it when she learned that she had cancer. It is a very helpful service. She made a living will and named my sister for the "power of attorney" and executor of her will. She wrote her will with her attorney to leave to her children (there are 3 of us) a fair division of her property. Having such guidance can prevent an inter-family war over who should get what. In her last days she was home with hospice care. My sister was her primary care giver and I spent mornings with her for my sister to get a break and do things she needed to do. She passed with all three of her children at her side with our hands on her. She did not want to be kept alive by artifical means and in some situations that can spare close family members the agonizing decision of pulling the plug. I could tell you a friends horror story about her mother having to make that decision but I will spare you from that.

Maybe I wouldn't have such a problem with voluntary counseling if Obama hadn't said that maybe a person in their 80's or 90's would be better off taking a pain pill rather than undergoing by-pass surgery. Or when he said he didn't think a govt run public program should have to pay for his grandmother's hip replacement because of her age. All the while, he's talked about how the last year of a person's life is the most expensive. After all, he is looking to cut costs.

A living will should be between a person, their family and their doctor. Not the govt.

Yes..

do you know what rationing is?

1. Rationing and Denial of Care - Health plans authorized to impose restrictions on access to care according to “clinical appropriateness.” (Sec. 121)

2. Political Appointees Decide - A health benefit advisory committee (political appointees) will decide what kind of benefits (medical treatments/practitioners/drugs) are and are not essential. The Secretary of HHS will implement the decision by rule. (Sec 122)

3.Government Intrusion – A Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER) will be established to use private medical records without patient or physician consent to conduct patient and physician surveillance and research “with respect to the outcomes, effectiveness, and appropriateness of health care services and procedures….” (Sec 1401)

Coverage does not = care

In 1992 George Bush approved end of life counseling free of charge for seniors. The republicans applauded it. 17 years later they think it means euthanasia. What happened to them during those 17 years? Is Pharma paying them millions of dollars to block insurance reform? It has to be. Not even a republican can be that stupid.

That's already been deleted from the bill as it became required and the physician would get a fee for it. That seemed like a bit much for a free peoples.

I would wager that more Republicans have living wills, advance directives, and DNR's than Democrats.

And of course we know what end of life counseling is. My mom's doctor, who bills Medicare to see her, counsels me about her end of life issues, in the multiple visits she has every year, since he knows what Medicare will pay, and how often.

When the government begins to be more involved in that directive throughout the life spectrum, the value of life is lessened.

This is not the so called death panels that the right is so concerned about, only what the people who didn't read the bill clung to as such.

OMG... my lawyer said I should think about end of life counseling... WHY DOES HE WANT TO KILL ME!!!!

hahaha...

what I really love, is that the people that say "read the bill" cry about this... as clearly they have not read the bill... or if they have, they have a very low comprehension level...

EDIT: if this isn't the "death panels" then why did the right cite this section of the bill when citing the "death panel" section?

In my opinion you are mincing words. When we are talking about health care reform we are talking about a GOVERNMENT panel that will meet with seniors to decide whether they will be treated for ailments or be given a pain pill and made comfortable while they die.

Exactly. Apparently, Republicans don't want people to get living wills, so their wishes can be respected if and when they become incapacitated. They would rather people not get living wills so their medical decisions can be left up to the government and the courts like in the Terry Schiavo case
Well, well, well...!!!
