Question:
Should college fundings be limited to profitable degrees only?

College is an investment we need to use those money wisely. There are limited resources. Money spent on subsidizing a gender studies major could be better spent researching medicine for some diseases.

How we determine how profitable is based on monetary value (eg: how much graduates make, how much the companies they work in pays for tax etc)

I don't like the idea of college being a center for education and enlightenment - you don't need to go to college for that - there are plenty of libraries and internet resources

College should be treated like a trade school, where people are taught important marketable skills

College is an "investment" if public money is somehow involved, like state subsidies or federal Pell grants or student loans. If a person goes to college using family money, it's not anyone's business what she studies. If government/taxpayer money is being used, the government/taxpayer should have some say in it. But I would resist the urge to say that only "useful" degrees should be pursued, because who will decide what's useful.

If all students learn math and science, then taken to the logical conclusion, there would be no entertainment industry, book publishing, local clubs and DJs, and so on and so forth. People can't breathe, eat and sleep STEM fields. It sounds like a technocratic nightmare if that's all America does.

Also, according to the free market, the wages go lower when the skill at issue is widespread. Doctors command high pay because they are very limited in number. Fast food workers earn little because their employers can easily replace them. Sanitation workers who labor for the city, however, do a job that many people despise or mock, but they are actually highly paid, because the work involved doesn't get many takers.

If you want a job go to a trade school. University has never been about getting a job. It's about getting an education. They are too different things. if you want a job after school, go learn a trade like plumbing, construction, truck driving, hair stylist, manicurist etc where you are pretty much guaranteed a job in your field when you get out

But the point of a university education is to make someone a more well rounded person knowledgeable about a variety of subjects. That's why universities still offer degrees in Classics, Philosophy, French, etc which do not lead to a specific career upon graduation. Because it's not about getting a job, it's about using your mind and educating yourself

Sending people who are failing in high school to college is a Huge Waste!

Teach people a skill and let then get started in life.

College is like the medical industry. If Government is involved it will Dominate you and most will just lose their assets instead of thriving. - But a few Will benefit.

Liberals will say: But if One Person benefits it is worth it!

Colleges and universities are a business and funding helps in many ways, medical research, robotics, new IE technical and others. Don't look for them to kill the goose laying the golden eggs soon. Part of my business is building research facilities in universities and it is very profitable to them.

In my personal experience every degree is profitable if you are good at what you do. For example, a person who speaks four languages can pick up a high paying job easily.

The old system of paying your own way sorts out folks that get bad degrees by forcing them to starve and live a life of debt works for me.

So who is going to decide how many doctors and lawyers we need and how many positions will be available for social science and gender studies majors?

Sounds like Communism to me. We might as well start setting the salaries for various jobs.

We used to have free college education in many states. No need to play favorites; all knowledge is priceless.

Of course. Gender studies isn't a real thing, and doesn't get anyone a good job. Of course retarded libcucks take retarded classes, and demand a retarded wage. Philosophy is literally pointless, as well.

Not profitable, needed. America doesn't need anymore lawyers, stock brokers, artists, or interpretive dancers. We do need more engineers, scientists, and business ethicists.

There are plenty of people in gender studies that end up making a fine living.
