Question:
Why do GOP politicians keep lying about fraud in the food stamp program?

Here is just one example, Randy Harris, making false claims"

http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2013/09/19/2650691/watch-congressmans-mathematically-incoherent-case-food-stamp-cuts/:

Comparing statistics about where fraud happens to statistics about how much money the program spends is misleading. The food stamps program has one of the lowest rates of fraud of any federal program. Fraud is actually a much larger problem in the crop insurance program that Harris and nearly all of his fellow Republicans re-authorized earlier this summer. Crop insurance has an erroneous payments rate higher than food stamps, and made 70 separate incorrect high-dollar payments last year compared to zero from all five federal food assistance programs. The crop insurance program also ends up enriching Wall Street insurers year in and year out with billions of taxpayer dollars in profits effectively guaranteed by the system.

it's a great talkie point.

since reagan lied to the nation about welfare queens driving around in roll royces, no one has ever been able to find these fabled abusers of the system.

mostly people on welfare are children, but repubelicans are unlikely to point out this inconvenient fact.

they will also look the other way while corporations like exxon/mobil fleece the taxpayers for billions per year.

but they are all too happy to literally take the food out of hungry children's mouths - if it means keeping the bribery machine rolling.

also never mind that there is a group of international banksters who OWN our central bank who have attached debt to our currency - this is the ultimate welfare presence in our entire nation and is at the root of our problems with debt - though don't look for any of our high priced bellhop politicians, or the so-called liberal media to point out this reality.

LOL, you liberals are SO gullible when it comes to food stamps. I know many, many people on food stamps, and all but a few are milking the system. They claim they are not married anymore and the bread winner left, but they are still there. Now they are eligible. Or they claim lower income because of off the books pay. Or other ways to get more, or get them at all when not eligible. And many of these same people have big screen TV's, nice cars, Nike shoes and PlayStation or Xbox's far more than I can afford. So much fraud.

There is fraud in any and every Government program. Unfortunately, this is a sad fact and has been for many, many years.

But, who says Republicans are lying? I bet it would be the same people who say Obama has never been anything except 100% honest with The American People.

Of course these are also the same people who accuse Republicans of being "out of touch"..

You should open your eyes to different sources. The Democrat party has you right where they want you. Many people have had a lot of wool pulled over their eyes. The Democrat party is cunning and shifty with their falsehoods. FACT!

Strange times are these in which we live when old and young are taught in falsehoods school.

And the one man that dares to tell the truth is called at once a lunatic and fool."

First of all I would never use "think progress" as a source. Second, ANY Government program is full of fraud, waste and abuse. The food stamp program is no different.

Because their own illegal immigrant maids and gardeners are on food stamps. With a little help from their employers of course.

Think progress is a liberal website. Figures from the federal government tell a different story.

"Fraud", according to most Conservatives, is when someone doesn't try to find work and keeps telling the Dept. of Human Assistance that they need Food Stamps.
