Question:
Why do people still think that Fox News is fair and balanced?
anonymous

When they admit that they are not news but entertainment. Corporate leadership at FOX, as well as personalities like Glenn Beck, and Bill O'Reily have openly admitted that they are entertainment opinion programming.

They also openly admit that they are not required, nor do they practice honest journalism or adhere to established journalistic standards.

In light of their own admissions, why do their watchers still thing that FOX is News?

Why don't their watchers understand that FOX is propaganda and entertainment? Why do their watchers give their propaganda credibility as if it were honest well studied news? Why do they still think it is news when they themselves admit that it is NOT news?

it's the same people who think that Steven Colbert isn't making fun of right wing extremists... at the same time, there is no unbiased news source out there so we're pretty much getting entertainers to give us news anyway

Do the major media outlets in the U.S. have a liberal bias? Few questions evoke stronger opinions, and we cannot think of a more important question to which objective statistical techniques can lend their service. So far, the debate has largely been one of anecdotes (“How can CBS News be balanced when it calls Steve Forbes’ tax plan ‘wacky’?”) and untested theories (“if the news industry is a competitive market, then how can media outlets be systematically biased?”).

Few studies provide an objective measure of the slant of news, and none has provided a way to link such a measure to ideological measures of other political actors. That is, none of the existing measures can say, for example, whether the New York Times is more liberal than Tom Daschle or whether Fox News is more conservative than Bill Frist. We provide such a measure. Namely, we compute an ADA score for various news outlets, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, USA Today, the Drudge Report, Fox News’ Special Report, and all three networks’ nightly news shows.

Our results show a strong liberal bias. All of the news outlets except Fox News’ Special Report and the Washington Times received a score to the left of the average member of Congress. And a few outlets, including the New York Times and CBS Evening News, were closer to the average Democrat in Congress than the center. These findings refer strictly to the news stories of the outlets. That is, we omitted editorials, book reviews, and letters to the editor from our sample.

They arent, they DO have a conservitave bias, but every news station has some sort of bias, its human nature.

And every other news channel I've watched has a liberal bias, and consedring that I'm a conservitave, It's fox news for me...

But, if you just want the facts, the best way to go about it is to reasearch many sources.

Has a liberal news media group, EVER, made a commitment to objectivity?

Have the words "fair" and "balanced" ever have been uttered by a liberal news agency?

Nope, liberals own the media and are outraged that FOX is allowed to broadcast news, that does not spin on behalf of liberal politics. There is no intent to allow anyone to be put on air, unless it favors socialism, Obama-ism or liberalism.

News groups like CNN, MS-NBC, ABC, CBS, NBC do not allow conservatives to have jobs or put on air unless they are made the fool.

Whenever there is a white on black injustice, every liberal news group falls over each other, to get Jackson and Sharpton, on center stage, to preach their race baiting and victimization messages.

FOX news would not exist or kick the socialist news groups butts, in the ratings, if the media was not biased, to the far left.

And the MSM is what? MSNBC is what? 30,000,000 viewers can't be wrong! Your own question reeks of bias while self-righteously condemning your perception of anothers! You provide two examples of "opinion-based" programming with Beck and O'Reilly (just like Olbermann['s or Maddow's) but you answered your own question: unlike those who perform similar journalistic roles at other stations who claim they are NOT, they ADMIT they entertain and that Fox has a "biased lean", while the others claim they do not! I prefer to get my assimilation of information from people who outwardly wear principle, not costumes to hide behind! just because they claim to be Edward R. Morrow, doesn't make them JOURNALISTS! What REALLY irks you about Fox News is not their as you see it "hypocrisy" but their OPPOSITION to what you have been indoctrinated to believe being "news" and what to say about them.

Anyone can claim to be fair and balanced. Here in San Diego I've watched Fox news, and I've been suprised by how narrow minded their fairness and balance is. Anyone can clain to be whatever they wish. Dumb are those who follow.

I like watching Chrisy Russo and the team in the morning. They give off a peaceful kind of news-cast

Fox News is biased( right lean). MSNBC and CNN are biased as well( both lean left). Since all the other news outlets lean left Fox dominates them because it has a different message and heavier material. Fox just isn't as boring as the other channels.

Serious question (because I seriously do not know the answer):

Does FOX News have any Democratic hosts on any of their shows?

Do you know the difference between FOX NEWS and the Commentary/Editorial shows they have on there?

Obviously you dont.

There is FOX NEWS.... Then they have the Editorial/Commentary shows you all like to complain about.

So why dont you complain about those shows specifically.... instead of accusing the FOX NEWS desk of being unfair and not balanced.

Openly admitted it...........ya, right. Why do liberals lie so much? If FOX isn't news, #1 for that matter, why do they have a front seat at the White House news briefing? Hmmm????

AWESOME !

I am so glad someone asked a FOX question... I missed them so.. it's been so soo.. er.. uh... .10 minutes ago.

anyway.

You say Fox News in your question.

And then give Hosts of shows.

That's like me asking about MSNBC, and mentioning Olberman and Madow.

I've seen your questions.. you can do better than this

People don't listen to right wing media to be informed or edified, but to have their own ignorant prejudices reinforced and validated. Fox knows this. It presents a biased view of the news, it tells its listeners what they want to hear.

But it doesn't say 'This is only the side of the news you want to hear. We bias every story towards the Republican Party'. 'Cos that's not what its listeners want to hear. They want to hear' This is the -truth-'. So that's what Fox tells 'em.

In a way it's kind of a litmus test. If you watch Fox and really believe they're fair and balanced, then you're a dittobot, your own view of the world is highly questionable.

Very balanced and have the smartest group of people.'

Well, if you can show me a clip or some sort of reference that would be nice. I watch it every night and it seems to me you do to in order to know more than I do about it. What would you prefer me to watch that is better news? I'll get right on it since you've been so enlightening.

I watched CNN and MSNBC once and there wasn't any news there and no entertainment either! Get your news from an impartial source that doesn't have to sell air time...read it online.

....and MSNBC is what? Factual and accurate? Ever just simply ask yourself why Fox has a zillion viewers and MSNBC has what - 100? 50 of them are dykes tuning into Rachel " love mens sport coats with a deep voice" Madow.

My husband's family swears on anything they hear from Fox News. One time his grandpa was warning us that Obama plans to "Get rid of christmas".

I think those who are uneducated are just willing to believe anything that sounds good to them. And those who are educated are just in denial. Plain and simple :)
