Question:
Who else thinks Capitalism is not the way forward for the west?

Capitalism corrupts our culture into mindless consumerist culture that feeds off the MSM, telling us to consume. In this society, you are judged by your purely wealth, expensives goods and social status. A century or two ago, you were judged by your contribution to society and how you deal with other people and your performance in your occupation.

Workers rights are taken away daily, and with a poor social safety net in the USA, it's a surprise no one is taking to the streets.Capitalists rob the working class of the fruits of surplus labor, robbing us blind. The government is inefficient, bureaucratic and is of the highest bidder. The govt burdens us with forced intergration of non-compatible cultures/races, with drowns out our culture, increases crime disease and poverty, as symptom of capitalism.

In my opinion the best way forward is a combination of ethnic nationalism and socialism, to counter the corruption of our culture at the hands of the capitalist establishment.

I favor a "mixed economy" similar to those of Western Europe, wherein capitalism is the primary economic model, but the social safety net is extensive. Many if not most people cannot practice raw capitalism: children, students, the handicapped, the unemployed, and retirees, for example, get left behind in a pure capitalism model. Instead of making them dependent upon charity, it's not too much for the government to protect them. People are more than just units of market production, and the laws should recognize this.

Agreed.

What most people fail to realize is that Capitalism is a zero-sum game. There is a finite amount of wealth and my gain requires your loss. That is by definition, inherently unfair.

The problem is that most fools believe that they actually have the chance to be wealthy, so they buy into the need to keep the status quo. They don't realize that the system is rigged against them and that they never will be wealthy.

To further confuse the issue, the psuedo-science of "economics" was developed to lend credence to the mythology propagated by the likes of Horatio Algers and the "work hard, get rich" ethos. No matter, for the intelligent among us can see through the lies.

The best way forward is without money in any form. We simply don't need it. We have enough resources to feed, clothe, and house everyone. That there are some who go to bed hungry every night is a failure of capitalism, not humanity.

The United States functions best for the most people when there is a yin-yang balance between socialism and capitalism. When Republicans have come to power in our recent past (Reagan/Bush; Bush/Quayle; Bush/Cheney/GOP totalitarianism), this balance has been nearly destroyed as they conduct their unreasonable corporate-colluding WAR on "government" (on the American people, actually). Ever-increasing PROFITS (a bottomless PIT) become their God! This leads to UNBRIDLED GREED and the American people become liabilities in the pursuit of this unbridled greed, but soon anyone paid anything (i.e., Third World nations' people at $300/year salaries) will also become liabilities as the corporate fatcats and their right-wing COLLUDERS seek MORE!MORE!MORE! and slip ever more into the ME!MY!MINE! mindsets.

Democrat Bill Clinton came to power when the destruction caused by Reagan's idiotic firing of PATCO was still wreaking havoc across this nation for full-time American workers (Bartlett & Steele, 1991) and the GOP "god" of deregulation had allowed our savings and loan industry (like our housing and credit markets plus our entire financial system, but on a "smaller" scale) to COLLAPSE---yet more examples of the BOTTOMLESS PIT GREED of capitalism not balanced with socialism (oversight, consumer protections). Jump forward to 2001 through 2008, with ruin at every level based on BAD FISCAL AND SOCIAL POLICIES of totalitarian FANATICISM and GREED (a.k.a., GOP), and again, a Democratic President with Democrats in Congress and Senate are here to save this nation. Health care and insurance reforms provide consumer protections; financial system reforms the same; the Credit CARD Act of 2009 curbs predatory fees or shady billing practices; the Lily Ledbetter Act prevents discrimination in pay based on gender and strengthens enforcement abilities; the disasterous supply-side (top 2% controls the wealth) economics is replaced with the always-better ground-up demand-side (Picker, 2009) that helps GROW the economy from the people-level (the masses) on upward and outward so that everyone prospers (same as for Bill Clinton's successful eight-year presidency). Our nation's yin-yang balance is slowly but steadily being restored. Now if we can just keep the nation-destroying GOP in check.

In your opinion, are people just things that produce other things that you like?

Because that's what the word "workers" sounds like to me. There's no humanity left in the term, at all. Someone stops being a human being, with hopes and dreams and ambitions, the second they're a worker.

Suddenly they're doomed to their plight, and the best we can do for them is to protect their rights while they're at work.

When people commit white collar crimes and rob us blind, what you do, is you fight that crime; you don't make it impossible to ever commit crimes.

I don't know what the "way forward in the west" is, but I am certain it's not your way of thinking.

1. if you look throughout history, capitalism rises countries out of poverty faster than anything else. and that's including the poor. the reason the poor people in america (on average) aren't as poor as the poor people in socialist countries is because we use capitalism.

2. if you had payed attention in economics, you would have learned that it has to be in peoples self intrest to start businesses. like, if u were gonna start a Business, would you rather start it and then have to pay all of your earnings to the government, or just work for someone else and not have to pay so high taxes? as a rational person, you would choose the latter.

3. republicans (who are known for wanting to take things away from the poor) give more (on average) to charities than democrats. the reason is that we feel its OUR job to help ppl, not the governments.

What you are talking about is consumerism brought about by corporatism.

Capitalism is the way forward as soon as we get rid of the corporatism and individual liberties for corporate conglomerates.

Capitalism is natural. Man is nomadic by nature, not communal.

Nationalism and socialism have yet to prove effective at all in any major society. Capitalism isn't perfect; It works pretty well for the most part, your info is just faulty and biased.
2010-12-20 00:25:12 UTC
And Socialism/Communism isn't corrupt? The USSR was by far the most corrupt nation on earth.
2010-12-20 00:28:02 UTC
Capitalism does not oppress the poor. It does not rob the working class.

Capitalism creates more wealth and opportunites for everyone, including the workers, and the poor.

You understanding of economics is non-existant and your politics is driven by jealousy and class -hatred, not logic.

Meeeeeeee!! For everywhere.. seriously I am learning about it in my new course, it's so crap! I don't get why people like it it's literally unfair on people of lower classes and it just doesn't treat people like humans! I think it's so bad not giving people the rights they deserve just because of status, so I full on agree with you!

Workers rights are taken away daily? Hmmm interesting. What workers right have actually been taken away? I think you are just talking out of your butt and have no clue what you are talking about
