Question:
Time for Texas to drop out of the United States?

Got more oil than we could use. Grow more food than we can eat. More cattle than we can eat. Have more cotton than we could ever use. Since Texas is a standalone country, Texans can make sweet deals and get virtually ever major corporation to relocate to Texas. Have flat 7% percent tax. No taxes on anything else. Cash basis for doctors, no forms, no red tape, no waiting paid in full at time of service. Import labor from China. We escape the national debt. We are not at war with anyone. The US will provide security for Texas as it is in their national interest. This could go on all day. The money Texas could make without the US is staggering, to say the least.

The rest of this country sure could learn a thing or two from that great state.

I agree Texas could and would thrive as it's own nation.

I agree Federal intervention has much to do with our problems

What I don't see is the why -

We are just one election away from taking the House and the Senate away from the Democrats and neutering Obama's agenda and even being able to impeach him.

The coming Republican Tsunami this November will give the majority to Republicans in the House and Senate is within reach. 10 seats needed in the Senate and the Democrats are in trouble in 11 seats (NV, ND, AR, CA, CO, IN, WI, WA, PA, DE, IL).

With this victory you can take away most of the agenda and in 2012 you have Sarah Palin taking the White House in a landslide victory unseen since Reagan.

He won't pull Texas out of the country by way of fact Texas can't foot the bill for the fires occurring now in his state, when you consider that Texas needs the wealthy to maintain the money that they earn and not pay taxes. as nicely, if Texas is a foreign places u . s . a ., he might desire a visa to pass to the country to seize companies to Texas, and the country in basic terms might deny him a visa to try this. LOL.

Sure. Until the sh*t hits the fan and then you'll be looking for government help. Back in March, Rick Perry rejected $555 million in federal stimulus money that would have expanded unemployment benefits for Texans. Perry argued at the time that accepting the stimulus dollars would force the state to expand eligibility to include thousands of low-wage workers, including part-time employees like single mothers, college students and senior citizens. Perry moaned that it would burden tax payers with higher taxes and expanded obligations. But since then Texas has asked the federal government for a $170 million loan to ensure the state is able to continue paying out unemployment benefits. Texas has requested $650 million, roughly $100 million more than Perry initially rejected. At a tea party protest, Perry trumpeted his decision to reject stimulus dollars from the Obama administration, saying that the government has become oppressive, but then has no problem posing for photo-ops accepting the stimulus checks. Perry is a moron who is all hat and no cattle and will pander to anyone to be re-elected. Good luck with your secession.

Yep, Texas is doing soooo well that your state refused the stimulus but just recently your Governor just asked for a Loan

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-5166310-503544.html

"Now that the state is in dire straits, however, Perry is asking the federal government for a loan to cover the very expenses the rejected stimulus money would have paid for."

Your state receives approximately .94 of every federal tax dollar paid by the whole country not just for your state.

Your state would go under in less than a year at the moment. We don't need Texas oil. If you will remember, your oil gets sent to OPEC as soon as it is barreled, stocked into their holdings, then, much of the oil sent to us to be refined IS foreign oil, then distributed to the rest of the world not just the US. If Texas seceded, we still have the Alaskan pipe line and other refineries around the US that would process our gas. Most of the main pipeline shipping hubs come from Louisiana to the east coast. Much of the beef we eat in this country is from the Northern states and a foreign market as well. Sweden is one of our largest suppliers. Chickens are in every state. Fish is also shipped from the eastern and western coast lines as well as hatcheries in the midwest. All Texas would do for the rest of the US is reduce our federal budget drain and make the other states richer by importing the rest of the US states products such as apples, fish, chicken, potatoes, seasonal produce, coal, and electricity. The US would charge an import tax of 12% to your state and sanction any political distributions to assist your state during a crisis.

You guys do what you have to do, but with your estimated population as of 2009 at 24,782,302, with a population growth percentage at an estimated 8.3% every 5 yrs, I am sure you will do just fine. Remember, you will have to have a passport and/or Visa to come here to visit family and friends too, and you all know how long that process takes.

Good luck Texas, you are gonna need it.

That would be a smart move on the part of Texas. If they hang around with Socialist States like New York and California, then Texas will eventually be forced to pay off the Debt Burdens of those irresponsible states.

Why should Texas Punish themselves for being responsible and logical in how they deal with their daily expenditures?

I have been a Texas resident my whole life and I agree with you 100%. We need to pull away from this corrupt government and become our own independent country. We would do much better on our own.
2010-06-24 05:45:27 UTC
Hypothetically, the most important thing you should remember as to why the world would leave texas alone, if texas did so. The repository for US strategic and tatical nuclear weapons is in Texas lol. Be one of the few in the world that became a country and a nuclear power at the same instant.

Yes, It makes me mad when the Idiots from broke California keep voting for liberals then want us to bail them out.

One more thing,I hope Rick Perry wins because Bill White is too liberal for us in Texas.
2010-06-24 05:44:38 UTC
Though we could it will never happen, we are to valuable to the rest of the country mainly because of things you listed as much as the ignorant northerners would love to see us go because we make them look bad because Texas is the role model for fiscal responsibility, prime example of why tax cuts do promote job growth among many other things which is why people/businesses are flocking here.

Bankrupt Northern states are just jealous of us.

...and watch their economy flag and fail in a few years, tops. The flat tax would ensure that the government would have almost no funds to do anything substantial in the state, since it's so absurdly low. The "sweet deals" you're talking about would bleed the rest of the economy dry by ensuring that the boost to the economy from all these corporations coming over would be as minimal as possible. Your health care system would bomb immediately because, with a cash basis, every single person making under 100,000 a year would be forced to move out. That would plunge your economy into debt. The labor imports from China would ensure that those who remain are out of their jobs, so they'll have to move out eventually. Not to mention the fact that China would be pissed off that you're importing their labor force to Texas, a point I'm sure they'll make in full. You'll escape the national debt, but keep your current debt and expand it massively. I don't see any reason why the U.S. would provide security to a state that just seceded from it.

Really, this is the big plan? Even California, a state with the largest production in the country, would be in deep trouble if they seceded, and not just because of the state debt.

Edit: Wow, your justifications just make your point worse and worse. Texas doesn't have the military force to secure its borders if the federal government isn't there to help. No, I'm not pretending it's a part of the U.S., you aren't regulating health care costs, so they'll stay at exactly the same level. Why do you think they'll change? What incentive will these companies have to reduce their costs? Everyone needs health insurance, people will still buy it. You're right, there's nothing money can't fix...if you have it. But most people don't have a whole lot of money.

So, wait, now you're reducing taxes on sales? And you expect your government to have more than two pennies to rub together? Yeah, that's the best way to defend the border, deplete all the money out of your state government and hope people join you voluntarily. I've taken plenty of economics classes, it's you who doesn't seem to understand what the federal government does and why it matters economically.
2010-06-24 06:15:33 UTC
sure... but we're going to put a huge levy on you so you couldn't sell to the united states...at least you couldn't without a huge fine...

see how many companies want to move there now...

we have plenty of food and cattle from the midwest and california and plenty of cotton from the rest of the south... have fun!

If Texas were to secede, I would move there.

I think both parties would get gehind this, however it would be viewed as racist, and Obama would invade Texas and be considered a savior and the next Lincoln, for saving the Texan people from being too free.

I live in Texas, now, but I don't want to secede. Or, if the rest of Texas wants to secede, let me first have time to pack my thngs and finally move to my dream home in Nome, Alaska..

**EDIT**

Hey! I don't like it here, cause it's just too hot and muggy! It's only June and we've already had a couple of triple digit heat indexes... Last summer was triple digits for days on end. Nome, in the summer is a balmy 45, with an atmosphere that has been heated by the sun for 24 hours. Sweater weather. I'm telling you, try it one summer and you'll be sold, too.

If U do, I hope you'll let me apply for citizenship.

please do. you drop your passing grades so more uneducated kids can graduate (thanks george bush). you will need to mint your own currency; hire border patrol; build border crossings; need a passport to get into any u s state or territory; all flights would now be international, so you would need more security, immigration, and customs agents; since you are a solo country, and a small one at that, your bargaining power will be limited, if not non existent.

so, yes, go right ahead. and don't borrow any u s currency for a bail out.

Sorry, I'm not extremely good with American history, but didn't the last few states that tried to leave get beaten on until they agreed to come back? Did something change since the last time? I thought the U.S. government was still an abusive boyfriend keeping all their states "in line". Whats the national equivalent to court-ordered anger management classes and a restraining order?

Right, off you go then. But before you do, return all the things in Texas that was paid for by the U.S. tax payer, and belongs to the U.S. Like everything in Fort Hood, and any other military base, and NASA. I see high unemployment rates in Texas's near future. BTW, can you want to secede from a country, and still claim that your the patriot, and it's the liberals who hate America? Tell you what, you secede, and I'll reconsider my position on a border fence.

Oh and one more thing, If you think you can leave, and still get America's protection. Your out of your mind. Have fun in the 50's.

What, your still here?

You wouldn't have a military Beavis, They took a loyalty oath the America, not Texas. You would have a national guard to protect your borders. And once you kick out all the blacks and Mexicans. You probably won't even have that. What you will have is a bunch of drunk, Meth lab employees, who think they're too good to do all the heavy lifting jobs. You'll get a few American to join your little party, and you'll elect some religious fanatic with no brains to lead you. It will be fun for about a month. Then you'll notice the roads aren't being fixed, and your not as protected as you thought. Then you'll want us to take care of all the things you took for granted, but without rejoining the country. And that's what you really want, isn't it? To be a parasite. To take what you want from America, without having to contribute to the country. Texas want to be a tick, sucking the blood out of America. We already have Israel. We don't need another.
2010-06-24 05:40:30 UTC
I hope we don't, not because its not like our government is fking everything up.. but as soon as we drop out and other states start droping out, that will be the best time for a foreign country to invade us.

but Texas might be a real country.

Yes, please. Only if they promise to shut up.

I lived out there for 15 years (Dallas, Houston).

They act like there's nothing else in America outside the State lines.

Austin is even another story. Nice city, but arrogant.
