No, dissent being patriotic changed the day Queen Pelosi and Prince Harry Reid took over both houses of congress. Obama has closed the door along with his followers to any and all possibility of free speech by anyone on the right. If they can't shout you down, they will call you names, and if that doesn't work, they'll dig into your background and destroy your character even if they have to make something up. THAT is what's called patriotism today by the left.

Check the Rule Book: Dissent is the highest form of patriotism ONLY when Democrats are out of power.

Individuals who objected to Bush's policies were called "unpatriotic," "unAmerican," "traitors," etc., by people here on Yahoo Answers, on a daily basis. Do the conservatives who used those descriptions still agree that they are applicable to dissenters?

Nevertheless, the daily criticisms that are being leveled against President Obama started before he even took office and for the most part are not based on rational bases. The "dissent" sounds more like personal hostility and even the policy criticisms offer no viable alternatives. Dissent for dissent's sake is not patriotic. It is just mindless bashing.

"This grew to become into their mantra for an prolonged time." Says who? Dissent is a form of patriotism particular.... yet purely becuase you're doing it out of what you have faith is definitely precise for our u . s . a .. you have faith a diffrent course is greater proper. i'm getting that. the problem is whilst this 'dissent' starts to interfere with different voters precise to respectable against or area with the present government. Screaming over tax paying voters at a non violent city corridor assembly isn't 'dissent' that's selfishness, and that's denying your fellow human beings their precise to voice their opinion on the government. those human beings think of their view is greater important than extremely everyone else to the extant that they have faith they might desire to scream and holler unintelligibly just to drown somebody with a different view out. that's extremely egocentric. to no longer point out that's short sighted because of the fact screaming and hollaring persons are not often considered as rational, and by making use of extension credible. In different words, that's less demanding for them to be dissmised as loons... even however they won't be. a greater proper answer is to bypass to city corridor assembly and act like a civilized citizen. Voice your dissent in a rational nicely thought out argument once you get your turn to talk. this may well be infinitesimally greater effective besides! and you basically isn't selfishly infringing on others rights to voice their comments too.

Dissent is important, and still happens. That's what you are doing. And that's what I was doing for 8 years of Bush, when you guys called me a "terrorist" when I dissented. I'm not calling you a terrorist, I just think you are a hypocrite, but I am not silencing you, nor do I want to.

It is, if you disagree with a Republican, but not the Messiah. If you are dissenting against Him, you are just a racist, not a patriot.

Yeah it did change. How many cons who said "We just have to support the President" when Bush was in office suddenly "discovered" that dissent is the highest form of patriotism when Obama got elected?

well we heard it was from the liberals who were protesting every thing 'Bush' but now that seems to have 'changed' and those who don't jump on board the Obama train are 'unpatriotic'. they are held up to ridicule and humiliations for speaking their minds.

i know Bush did things that i did not agree with but i have never heard or seen him ridicule those who disagreed with him.

he even mentions 'certain news channels which are not very popular' by that he means those who question him, he must have not looked at their ratings.

he seems feels that no one has the right to question him...i guess he has listened to Chavez on how to eliminate dissenters.

he will speak unconditionally to despots but won't speak to fox news. that doesn't even seem logical.

i wonder if soon he will make it illegal to disagree with him on anything. it has happened and is happening in other places now. russia, NK, and in Venezuela. if you think it could not happen here, you are be into denial.

Sure, dissent is fine.

Stupidity (taking shots at the President's marriage) is not.

Same difference. Still a stupid question.

Here's the thing, I am a liberal. An anti war liberal who protested the stupid invasion of Iraq.

I think dissent is the highest form of patriotism. I welcome dissent.

And I will disagree with mock and laugh at the views of those with whom I disagree, just as others did with me.

I don't know if I would call them traitors, people who hate america and want us to lose, and so on, as we were called however,

Because liberals actually DO believe in dissent, we don't believe in it only when we are the ones on the outside looking in.

Dissent was never the highest form of patriotism. It is merely the declaration of those not in power.

No. It's still important to keep the government in check. Too bad the far right and the press wouldn't do that for Bush and his Mafia. The republican party would still be in power.

We aren't calling you traitors for your dissent. We're laughing because of how you're protesting and what you're protesting about.
