Why do people believe that the GOP is conservative?

I often hear about how the GOP are "spending alot too" and how they are giving protection to corporations, or doing this and that.

Yes, they are doing these things; but who ever said they were conservative? Very few GOP members are real conservatives. I mean fiscal conservatives.

Most are happy spenders and big government bureaucrats; so the next time we conservatives complain about spending, don't respond with "Well, 'you guys' spent too". No, we didn't. Some crooks in the GOP party did, and we didn't like them either, and it just so happens that now it's to the point of absurdity.

Its lost on your average voter. Neither party is fiscally conservative in any fashion, especially on the national level. When you say conservative, they think socially conservative. So that is where the parties pull thier base. So moderates get lost in this mess. Until open blanket primaries like California and Louisanas are implemented all over the country, nothing will minimize the control of the two parties. So this mess is what we will be stuck with. Social activists controlling the parties, which in turn ends up giving us politicians with no experience in spending or managing something as big as our government, running our government.

Correction: All the crooks in your party did and they spend lots of money on wars and corporate welfare too. The GOP is socially conservative - not fiscally conservative. They don't like gays in the military, legalizing marijuana, or illegal immigrants. They just pretend to be fiscally responsible.
