When you have a people so thick, so politically ignorant that, even though they are governed by a government that less than 26% of people voted for, and that government takes its orders from the EU and not the people, they still believe that they have a democracy, What hope have you got? As I say, Parliament is more in the role of live stock farmer than a seat of democracy. The 21st century British are truly, a totally castrated people.

As others have said we no longer live in a real democracy we might have a vote every 5 years but soon as the party gains power there toe the EU elite line and ignore the voters wishes. We have the arrogant liberal line in the media saying its a distraction or its not the right time and of course the usual scare mongering bull **** about how Britain will be all alone in the world if we leave hang on is Switzerland or Norway really in the **** because its not a member of the EU gravy train of course not we can have trading relations outside of the EU.Great to see some principled Mps making a stand even though i think they should leave there parties and join UKIP or be independent in fact enough Tory Mps would bring this pathetic coalition down.

There wasn't any point at all if you wanted a real democratic situation where the people of the nation were represented. The fact of the matter is really that Cameron, Miliband and Clegg didn't want the vote to go as a yes for a referendum for one reason and one reason only. They all 3 were afraid they would lose the perks and expenses they get from dealing with the EU and the euro fiasco and scam forced on us. They were also worried about the promised but not going to happen, position on the EU politburo they all 3 want. They can talk to Blair and Brown to see how that all comes out. Guess we will have to get used to it here in the UK. It is the sort of thing that happens to you when you don't live in a democracy. I also guess that Cameron like little jumped up gnomes like Sarkosy telling him and us that we have to pay to bail the EU out for all their get rich quick schemes for themselves. PM of the UK. No. I think Cameron now need to be called what he is for the EU. Gofer. Merkel and Sarkosy tell him constantly to gofer this and gofer that and this idiot breaks his neck in order to do it.

It just makes a mockery out of having issues debated in parliament if 100,000 people or more email for it. Mind you, I suspect somewhere along the line they will get 100,000 people pushing for a vote on bringing back fox hunting and I bet that flies through the commons. I guess it's Camerons kind of democracy, where he can ultimately decide what deserves and doesn't deserve a referendum. I'm pro EU by the way, but I still believe there should be a referendum on it as it's changed so much from how it started out.

is this a query, or did you merely choose comments? i'm going to offer mine. the government is caught between a rock and a not straightforward place. it may the two supply them the vote and face the song from the generic public, or not supply them the vote and face the song from Strasbourg. It relies upon what the generic public fee greater - £160million in saved criminal expenditures, or the ethical severe floor. What the government needs to do is positioned across this ideas to those with out it going for the duration of the filters of the father or mom and different tabloid press who will probable sensationalise the story and not supply people the finished info. different than that, i don't understand what to do the two. this is a astonishing own-purpose from the european, through fact in spite of determination the government makes, they have alienated all 63m people.

HE who pays the piper calls the tune BUT and that is a big BUT, MPs and especially government ministers do NOT recognise that , MPs are paid BY the people to carry out the wishes of the people who elected them but there again they do not seem to recognise the fact Cameron stated during the run up to the last election that if an MP did not satisfy the electorate then the electors had the right to have that MP SACKED time again to call the tune, IT IS NOT UP TO PARTIES TO DECIDE it is up to us THE PEOPLE

This is one of the main problems we have. MP's are elected by the people to represent them. Parties that threaten MP's with demotion or suspension, if they don't "toe the party line" are undemocratic and this should be outlawed. They all do it, it's not just Cameron.

this is in response to the e-petition requesting a referendum on EU. this way they can say they have debated it in parliament.

we were never going to be allowed any referendum that allows Uk withdrawal form EU. even if majority want this we have to realistic and accept that MP's etc who work with EU are very much into the travel, pay.perks and power etc that come with this so human nature prevents best interests of country being sought as it is not in any MP's interest to leave.

What's even more interesting, is people still think we live in a democracy.

you clearly don't understand how it works.

Ballots are still private in the House of Commons, so a person who believes in something (or not) can in the end vote however the hell the want.
