Question:
Would You Rather Have A New Ford F150, Or A Chevrolet Volt?

Taxpayers paid billions to develop the Chevrolet Volt and pays about $8000 more in tax credits to subsidize the purchase of every Chevy Volt.

The government charges buyers of Ford F-150's a gas guzzler tax and of course, provides no subsidy, yet Ford sells more F-150's in an hour than Chevrolet Volts sell in a month.

Would you rather have a brand-new Chevrolet Volt, or a loaded Ford F-150 King Ranch for about the same money?

Every form of transportation in the USA has a government subsidy. Airlines are subsidized. Trains are subsidized.

*

And yes, your F-150 is subsidized through its fuel source, gasoline. Petroleum gets more government welfare than airlines, trains and electric cars put together - billions upon billions of dollars.

*

This is not a defense of subsidies - this should all stop. But don't pretend this is exclusively an electric car problem.

*

To answer your question, I would rather have a Chevy Volt. In fact I do have one. It saves me money in fuel cost, and is a wonderful car to drive, full of technological gadgets, plus quick acceleration and a very smooth ride.

*

Look in sources below, there's an EV calculator that shows exactly how an expensive car like the Volt can nonetheless save money in the long run.

Chevy Volt. I live in the city (in Europe, no less) and there is no way in hell I will ever get a Ford F150. I would never find a parking space for it. I have enough trouble finding parking for my Ford Fusion, which is why I keep it garaged at work and take the bus much of the time.

And also, I'm not a landscaper.
So easy, a democrat could do it!

I have an '07 F-150 and just added an '11 F-250 with the 6.2L V-8. That sucker pulls like you wouldn't believe! I guarantee you I could chain a Volt to a tree and pull it in half with that F-250.

people should get what they actually need.

a guy with a desk job who doesn't even own tools does not need a Ford F-150.

And someone who owns a farm and lives at the end of a 1/4 mile dirt road does not need a Volt.

I live in the city, I'll take a Volt.

Not a Ford guy and have no need for a truck.

If I was going to buy an electric car I'd buy the Nissan Leaf. a true full time electric car and much less expensive than the Volt.

If I could choose any I'd go with the Infiniti FX 50.

Chevy Volt, but I actually prefer no car. I just rent a truck if I need one and try to live in places where I can walk to work and stores. I just feel better that way.

And yes Ford would not exist without cash for clunkers and Tarp. Ford was a bank that happened to own an auto manufacturing company in 2008.

There is no way in hell I would pay 200 dollars to fill the tank on an F150 on a weekly basis.

It is not an either / or question for me.

I am happy with my pickup truck right now. So if you're offering me new vehicle, I might just take the Volt as a way to save money on fuel costs. I will use the truck for hauling, and the Volt when it is just me.

The point that you allude to is justified though. This is just another lousy example of the government trying to pick winners and losers.

Agree on the F150, for a multitude of reasons : Quality, no bailout, more utilitarian.

Basically, you are asking me whether I would prefer a gasoline powered vehicle or a coal (electricity) powered vehicle.
