That's because they didn't target conservative groups alone. They targeted all the new thousands of applications that they were inundated with after the Supreme Court ruling on Citizens United. The only groups denied status WERE LIBERAL GROUPS!!

The problem was that the 501C4 was set up in 1959 by Congress, requiring the groups to spend all their money on service. Someone way back then changed the word in the bill "exclusively" to "primarily". After Citizens United, the IRS was suddenly flooded with thousands of applications from political groups. It became their task to determine what "primarily" meant, and determine if each group was actually doing it.

501C3 are charitable groups, not political.

If anyone gave false information in their application, they should be penalized, yes.

Several things:

1. Both conservative and liberal groups were targeted (though more conservative than liberal); and the only groups denied their tax-exempt status were liberal groups.

2. Though overstepping, the IRS did nothing illegal. Not to say it wasn't wrong, just that they were doing their legal job.

3. No one was taxed. It was about granting tax-exempt status. Did you notice that every... single... conservative group that applied was approved?

Two things: It's 501c4 not 501c3, Liberalism isn't a religion it's an ideology

I think that all groups, liberal and conservative, should have to pay taxes.

It looks like they are too stupid to realize these groups were harassed and made to pay heavy expenses because they oppose Obama. Much of the targeting was as a result of applications for 501c3 status. Notice that no liberal applicants are complaining. In Cincinnati over 10,000 applications that are supposed to be processed withing legally stated time limits were tabled. That is a crime.

We should let Maddow and the rest of the liberals know that we we get back into power we will be coming after them.

Your premise is a lie. I suppose that's why you have nothing to back it up.

@Scott C: You have a very short memory. Bush had nothing but scandals...including one involving the IRS.

the ONLY group that was denied was a democratic group.

political groups are not supposed to get tax-exempt status.

The IRS is righteous and never would do anything to intentionally hurt somebody. Government is only a helping hand there to help.

Axelrod on DICK! Gregory's show, Meet the Propaganda, today stated that this was not "political"For all those doubters on MSNBC (and here for that matter) here's the litmus test for bias: substitute the words "African-American" for "conservative" and target groups with key words like "black", "urban", or "colored" and then ask yourself if those groups are being "targeted". They are doing to conservative 501's what they did to Gibson Guitars:

By all means, if they have broken the law, they should go after them.
