Is the whole "liberal media" thing even slightly accurate?

I can't even stand to watch the News on any station because it's all a bunch of distraction and NONE of the issues that Bush is causing for everyday Americans.

1) Where is the report on how Bush's Mortgage plan only benefits the banks and will actually cause more foreclosures?

2) Where is the story about how if a woman is raped, there is no longer an emergency contraceptive available to her at the pharmacy?

3) Where is the story about how Condoleeza Rice has been attacked by protesters and how much money has spent on increased security for the entire Bush administration over seas because they are universally HATED now?

Hmmm?

Because I think a "liberal media" would cover those stories, don't you?

The "liberal media" is a fairy tale by those on the right. There is not an ounce of truth, nor any suggestion it is true. Just another way to avoid the issues by blame to a nonexistent entity.

EDIT:

To Pooled08. What? your post:

"I believe that they sense this, hence, the ratings for Fox News (which is by far and away the most balanced news organization out there) are sky high compared to everybody else. Americans want the truth. Period."

If Americans want the truth they won't get it from Fox. This is the network that went to court for their right to distort news.

"Liberal biased" is basically a term used to label anyone or thing that isn't racist, homophobic, Christian, pro-war, uneducated, ignorant, gullible, paranoid, etc.....

The reason those station might cater to the left is because they don't believe the creator of the universe hates gay people so they don't want to support the clowns that think that kids should be taught that earth is only 6000 years old, while also teaching them about the dinosaurs that existed millions of years ago. Talk about breeding ignorance. The war isn't working and it's based on documented lies. What do you except the media to do, ignore it?

The people who make the argument for a "liberal media" are basically saying, "Hey, you're not supposed to tell them that. That was supposed to be secret! Don't be a narc!". Cons are losing because they stand for nothing and they know it. The only way for them to succeed to shelter everyone in society and control the people. That's why Cons rely so much on their AM radio and Fox News. They need something to make them feel good about their ignorance. Liberals don't need to reminded of their concern for the truth. Liberals go to school and let the truth dictate the authority. Cons prefer to have the authority dictate the truth, hence why they only accept information from within. Anything that proves them wrong and contradicts their belief, they label as "liberal biased" and move along. Go figure why so many Cons are religious. It's the same philosophy.

You will never hear Fox News speak poorly of the president because they claims it's anti-American to bad mouth the leader, yet they slammed Clinton for 8 years and continue to do so today. Either their supporters aren't bright enough to see the hypocrisy or they just don't care, because ignorance is the strongest trait in Conservatives.

I think the people you see on television are generally left-of-center - most of them have degrees in journalism, communications, media, or some technical aspect of television production - all overwhelmingly "leftwing" fields. But their paychecks come from people who have much more money, and THEIR cash comes from corporate sponsors. So the liberal media have to swallow their social conscience and spew the garbage that corporate America pays them to repeat... or in the case of the stories you ask about, to NOT air them. Thus the Right whines about the liberal media, meaning the announcers, and the Left complains about the right-wing forces behind the scenes.

In the middle seventies right wing think tanks like the Heritage Foundation & Cato devised ways to brainwash middle Americans into believing that what was good for the wealthy was good for the middle class.Part of this program was the false, loss of credibility for the media. The hard line conservatives do not want you to have news unless it fits their agenda. Remember the crowning achievement of this brainwashing was the election of Ronald Reagan,A man who was very effective because he actually believed his own lies. One of the things that was done to limit your access to the truth was the removal of the fairness doctrine. This led to the rise of right wing talk radio shows like Limbaugh and Hannity to name the bigger of many. There are very few voices to counter the falsehoods that these men spread. Notice that they fear any talk of a return of a fairness doctrine, and they constantly talk about the media.Rush calls it the "drive by media".All of this and a great deal more are designed to keep people supporting policies that only favor the top 10% of the population.

In reality the biggest players in the media are not liberal by any means.

NBC - owned by GE, the largest defense contractor - donated $1.1 million to GW Bush

CBS - headed by Frank Carlucci (Carlyle Group) - a former Bush cabinet member - Carlyle Group has ties to Bush Sr, Saudi princes, and Bin Laden family members prior to 911. Since 911 the Bin Laden family members have sold their stock in the Carlyle Group

Disney/ABC - donated $640,000 to GW Bush

Time Warner/TBS - donated $1.6 million to GW Bush

FOX - Rupert Murdock - donated $2.9 million to GW Bush

Most of the mainstream media is 'more likely' to lean left. Hollywood and the entertainment industry tend to lean towards the guilt that is rampant in the democratic party and is missing in most of us Republicans. That said most journalism majors know that there is more sensationalism that can be had on the left than the right.

So yes, I do believe the media has a distinct liberal slant.

There is no liberal media. MSNBC and CNN have conservatives in their networks with their own shows. They criticize the Democrats all they want and they're free to do so. How many liberals have their own show on FOX where they are free to criticize everything they see wrong with the current administration? None.

Jon Stewart (ok, ok, his writers) said it best: "Reality has a liberal bias." Telling the simple facts minus the rightie spin is now considered "liberal" ergo the only good journalism is liberal journalism. Remember when TV news consisted of actual JOURNALISTS instead of entertainers and stenographers?

shhhhh there is no Liberal Media!!

Best defense is an offence!!

If you attack the media for being too liberal then you cant be attacked for being a Right Wing Media.

If there is no coverage of those issues, how would you know of them? Hmmm?

>"ndmagicman"- Frank Carlucci was in the cabinet under Ronald Reagan, but George H.W. Bush.

You need to read Bernie Goldberg's book regarding this issue. The liberal media does exist (especially at MSNBC). But it's very hard to catch. Facts are purposely omitted in order to further an agenda.

Example:

We are winning in Iraq thanks to the surge, but you would not know that unless you watched a network like Fox news. The job of the media is to report all the facts given to them. Omitting facts just because those facts fly in the face of your agenda (be it liberal or conservative) is wrong. It slants your story.

By the process of omitting facts (and grossly sensationalizing the facts that they have, as in the case of Haditha), there is a liberal slant to the mainstream media. Americans are not getting the entire story. I believe that they sense this, hence, the ratings for Fox News (which is by far and away the most balanced news organization out there) are sky high compared to everybody else. Americans want the truth. Period.

Besides Fox, which is right-wing, the other major media outlets are mainstream (moderate conservative). The "liberal media" is a myth that far-right conservatives invented because in their opinion anyone that is not extreme right must be liberal.

Seems to me most journalists are either lazy or overly ambitious (looking for scoops or exciting, ratings oriented stories)-there is no ideology involved. The "liberal" tag is just something the right uses to camouflage its mistakes.

The thing is, to the right wing fringe that whines about "liberal media", the mainstream is disgustingly liberal. They're not so much offended by the liberal media as they are the majority of citizens that the media caters to.

lol! I laugh every time ignorant conservatives go "Waaaah! I hate the 'liberal media', blah blah blah!"

The media is bribed by ANY politicians who need things covered up. It is that simple.
