Question:
Why is there stigma attached to being a socialist and rejecting capitalism?
2010-08-10 17:55:56 UTC
Why, when capitalism spawns greed and war along with a variety of other sins and evils, is it considered "wrong" to support equality and not support financial parasitism? Especially when half the world's population lives on under three dollars a day while a handful of people hold wealth that most people could never imagine.

Well if you don't like capitalism you could leave our capitalist country and move to the Soviet Union, oh wait...

Capitalism has brought the greatest standard of living the world has ever seen. It's not perfect but it's arguably the best system available. Socialism has failed wherever it has sprung up. A socialist society supports welfare parasitism and the theft of people's wealth. Warmongering, greed, and poverty exist in socialism as well.

"Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude."

McCarthyism, patriotism (American nationalism), the capitalist, materialist culture nurtured in our country, propaganda, and the despicable crimes and falsehood of the countries claiming to be socialist (i.e. the USSR) all led to socialism being viewed as a negative thing. The vast majority of Americans do not understand what Marxism really is- they haven't even read Das Kapital, or The Communist Manifesto. They have, however, been exposed to cultural conditioning and propaganda which touts a faulty view of socialism/Marxism...that they are horrible systems under which to live. Part of the reason why people buy this b/s, is because socialism represents a massive change in every aspect of our political, economic, and social understandings and institutions. Everything would change. That's frightening to most people...and when the masses try to grasp an understanding of what this change would really mean, it is of course an action of the government to make sure that their understanding is befuddled and inaccurate. Otherwise, there is the possible of Jeffersonian revolution. And the powers that be say no-no to that.

True socialism is just like in the USSR.

People often confuse socialism (an example, communism) with communialism.

Communalism says that we all share the wealth and work for the genuine benefit of all people.

Socialism tries, in vain, to borrow that virtue, to con people into subscribing. Socialism says that all people must work for the good of the state. All things, all wealth belong to the state. All people must do what is best for the state and the government will do what is best for the state even if it means stepping on the people.

People seem to think that the state means the people. The state is an imaginary entity. Not the people.

There is nothing wrong with the ideal of socialism, however, the implementation of socialism is where the problems lies. The individuals who wanted to see a fair and just world had a very good idea with respect to socialism and social justice, but to implement socialism is a lot more difficult than one imagine.

Capitalism is easy because it is about greed, and it does not take a lot to be selfish, however, to put in place a system that allow social justice for all is a very tall order and those that have tried it fail miserably.

Because everything you claim to be against, is EXACTLY what Socialism gives us, and Capitalism helps prevent.

Which is more "greedy" someone in a capitalist society seeing someone else becoming successful and he too works hard and achieves success, or someone in a socialist system seeing someone running to grab a certain rare item on a store shelf and knocking over other people and fighting them to get that one item that is so rare because socialism can't produce enough?

In most countries a few people hold all the wealth and power BECAUSE they are socialists.

Who is the parasite?

Someone who works hard build builds a business and hires many people or the one who sits around saying "unemployment pays enough for me to get by so I will sit here and collect it at taxpayer expense instead of honestly trying to find a job". ?

As for warmongering it is all the liberals who are the warmongers.

Liberals LOVE war and violence.

They always side with the jihadists against America and the West and HATE America and the West for daring to protect themselves and fight BACK against the liberal wars caused by liberals like the jihadists.

It is a liberal judge who just rulled that a man had the right to violently rape his wife because in his religion (the same one that wants a victory structure, near Ground Zero in New York) that is how it is supposed to be.

When business is destroyed there is no economy for anyone to be hired in and the poverty will roll over everyone, just like the liberals have always wanted.

"If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government that is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself." – James Madison

This quote pretty much sums up what I believe about socialism.

It only works with a leader who is honest and perfect because when you have socialism, you give the government a phenomonal amount of power. If you give that power to mere mortals, there will be abuse of power.

Hi.

Marxism failed. Cultural Marxism is failing. So socialists get tarred with the same brush.

Capitalism sucks, but no-one feels that socialism is in any way a better solution.

Being a socialist in this era is like being a republican during the reign of Emperor Tiberius. You're just out of whack with the times, is all.

Because of the fact that Equality is a myth, maybe you should put down the LSD and reconcile with your conservative mother before she dies of Lung cancer... oh wait, you didn't know your mother started smoking after you ran away from home? Oh no biggy, we'll just pay for her treatment with our taxpayer dollars because your father left her thinking you came out retarded.

Capitalism also spawns free trade, competition in the market place spurs growth.Socialism does not.Poverty is up to the populace,if they allow their government to run their daily lives then that's what happens. And if you take the time to look, there is more war in areas where socialism and tyranny rule.

Morals are currently created by the country's leaders; the large corporations!

While justifying their tactics they have managed to corrupt the entire country and a great amount of Americans think there is no worthier goal than the pursuit of wealth.

Most of the pride Americans have comes from Americas many socialist endeavors. NASA, our military, and our highway system are but a few.

A little socialism is good.

Besides, Socialism will not solve the World's Problems...........

Not only is it wrong, but it is also economically impractical. Just look at China. Why would they be switching to capitalism?

Socialism is fine as long as it is balanced with capitalism, and vice versa.

With socialism, you reward laziness, which you have to admit isn't a good thing.
