The first time I was old enough to vote was the 1996 election. I voted for Ross Perot. I thought it was important to create a third party in this country because at that time, the two parties looked very much the same and I felt that there was no legitimate watchdog to challenge our federal politicians. I felt that we as a people could be manipulated by our federal government when we weren't really being represented by it. I wanted to vote for a candidate that would challenge the status quo.

P.S. I'm absolutely enthralled by Stolworthy's voting record. From Reagan to Nader! What an interesting path you must have taken. I'd love to hear your story over a glass of whisky.

The first time I voted was in 2004, I had to vote for Kerry even though I wanted to vote for Bush. I was threatened that I would be kicked out of the house if I voted for Bush and my Mom had ways of finding out whether I voted for Kerry or not. Either way, Bush won.

1976 - I voted for Gerald Ford

(Sadly we got Carter instead, and we're STILL paying for his mistakes. I also disagree with the 'heck of a nice guy' evaluation. I used to think that until I discovered he was running around the world trying to UNDERMINE the policies of his successors when he disagreed with them. And since then he has also taken to badmouthing Bush wherever he pleases -- something there was a longstanding tradition an ex-Prez was NOT to do. He was not our worst President --though not many rank worse-- but he may well be our worst EX-President.)
