"government and businesses properly safeguard people's private communications and financial information."

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/11/11/terrorist.surveillance.ap/index.html

come on. time and time again the republicas play the "stay out of my business" game. look at health care for an example. The republicans dont want the government telling them were to go or when for a doctor. but when it comes to the patriot act, isn't it odd that the republicans are all for privacy invasion by the government?

LOL

is it just me?

is it just easier for them to roll over and play bush? LOL

or are they just hypocrytical about everything?

You've swallowed the far left talking points hook, line, and sinker. If the patriot act is sooooo intrusive, then why did the democratic led senate, renew it?

Do you get equally upset when you get credit card offers in the mail that you didn't request? The reason you get them is some company you've done business with SOLD your personal information to someone else. There are 3 huge corporations that control your ability to buy things on credit and sell that information to anyone who wants it.

I don't worry about wire taps because I don't have phone conversations with foreigners who are suspected terrorists. The patriot act gives the NSA the same authority the FBI has in wire tapping criminals. Why is that so evil?

And as for the doctor argument, I don't want my health care to resemble that of Canada, or Great Britain. I'll agree with you that the cost of medical treatment has gotten ridiculous, but do you really want the federal government to control it?

Greetings. mainly because in a police state, or dictatorship, the people are considered the enemy, that has to be watched because they are evil and always trying to shake off the shackles of the oppressors and become free from the police state, which is our government and all its flunkies. In a police state the leaders are not considered part of the nations population but the rulers. about like the Royals are. Rule the nation, but not subject to the laws of that nation that they enforce on everyone else. The republicans and democrats now are fully for a police state with special privileges for the wealthy and those with political power or influence. And totally against our people being free citizens and not slaves of the favored class.

The greater politically acceptable we develop into the greater rights we lose. As for the Patriot Act...if we are to have open borders, all of us ought to go through the implications for secure practices. This has been existence with the aid of fact the beginning up of time. Eve tousled and gave Adam the fruit...he chosen to take it and you be attentive to what the implications of those strikes have been given us. i'm thinking final the borders and deporting honestly everyone not criminal. Then we are able to do away with the Patriot Act.

Bush's Patriot Act ?

If I remember correctly almost all democrats voted for that Law.

Infact in a democratic controlled senate, the vote was 98-0 for the Patriot Act.

Three of the top four Democratic presidential candiate's, who were in the senate at the time, fully supported the Patriot Act.

Actually, the Republicans seem to have decided that the Government belongs in everyone's affairs, other than those of the rich and major corporations. They have supported legislation governing what goes on in people's bedrooms, who people can marry, what decisions a woman can make with her doctor, and have even tried to take over local schools. Just yesterday the Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security announced that Americans "need to redefine their concept of privacy," and get used to the government monitoring all of our private communications. Somewhere George Orwell is saying "I told you so."

This is an easy one. In a time of war I want our government to do whatever needs to be done to keep us safe. This is a different threat than any we have ever faced before therefor how we fight it must overcome those changes. This includes the Patriot Act. If the Muslim in your neighborhood was planning a bombing at your childs school are you trying to say it would bother you if the feds were listening and were able to thwart that attack? There are very specifics guidelines they must follow in order to listen to phone calls. No one wants to hear you and your BFF Jill.

ADD: No Conservative will take you seriously if you post links to CNN as proof of anything.

Privacy is important to republicans because they want their business to be regulated and fair. However, they don't want the government to control it. There is a signifigant difference between regulation and total control. I know a doctor who makes a living off of his job and his family fully relies upon his work and how well he does. Should that new healthcare bill be passed, him and millions of other people in the medical field will lose jobs and/or get signifigant pay cuts, affecting them and their entire families.

Republicans want government regulation, not government control.

It is because ALL politicians are only out to line their own damn pockets neither political party does the smart thing, they lack the capacity to concede and compromise, they focus on lesser issues like whether "domestic partnerships" ( gay marriage) should be called marriage and abortion, rather than on social security, education, national debt, and foreign affairs. The third parties only exist to siphon votes, because they will never win.

In short its one of those f*cked either way kind of things, no matter who is encharge we will have crap like this.

Trying reading the Patriot Act and use simple word association with the word "terrorists" If you are not a terrorists then there is nothing to worry about Kind of hypocritical that the left loves protecting those that want to destroy America
