Question:
Is Trump's doctor violating HIPAA by using Windows XP?

Why does it matter if Dr. Bornstein is using an outdated operating system? Well, it could be a violation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP back in 2014 and HIPAA requires doctors to make continued security updates to their systems to protect the privacy of the information they collect on their patients.

Information stored on a computer running Windows XP is potentially at risk and the security community pretty universally regards Windows XP as unsafe at this point. So... best of luck, Mr. Trump?

probably not. plenty of other companies make and still support security software for XP computers.

it's just that, without Microsoft, they are more vulnerable to over the web intrusion methods. Used carefully, behind a serious firewall supplied by a commercial grade gateway, they're fine and it isn't a HIPAA violation

Probably not since the majority of doctors use a software company that designs software specifically for Doctors and medical professionals. The smaller non-profit hospitals and some of the older doctors are holding out because it is expensive and hard to learn.

You have to assume he's surfing the net at work. One of my work computers is not online, it is also a dinosaur pentium 2. My security is abstinence on that one. Audio and pictures is a potential breach of hipaa too and one could get fired immediately.

Apparently the records were paper. That’s how they were “seized.”

I have an old computer running XP. I disconnected it from the internet four years ago because it was no longer safe to use online. (I switched to Mac).

If that old hairy doc is really using XP, it is time he and his computer retired.

My desktop looks like that and I'm on Windows 8.1. I just have a shell on it that makes it look like I still have XP. If I wanted to I could make it look like most former windows versions.
