Question:
Are Race Relations Really that Bad in America?
2016-09-29 16:16:02 UTC
I keep seeing stories all over the news about how bad race relations are. I live in California, where race relations are actually pretty great here. I haven't been able to travel very much so I just wanted to ask, what are race relations like in the area you live in and what part of the country do you come from?

No, that is hyped up media version of America. In reality millions of everyday Americans of all colors and culture not only co-exist but work alongside each other and date and hangout. Majority of people don't look at a person skin color, they see the person for who they are. Majority of 👮 are not out for blood, the last thing they want to do is have to take a few months off for an investigation. Matter of fact, the police are probably the least likely people who would shoot 💥🔫 an unarmed person. Race relations are a lot better now than they were in the 40-70s era, and in fact I would argue we are improving each and every day in each and every way.

I think it is mostly media hype and most of us everyday Americans get along great. I live in a town that is pretty much 50 /50 black / white, and we all get along as family except for the few racists on either side. I ask questions of the people that are different colors, races and religions to try to understand things from their perspectives and find many get along well.

However there are hardships and racism that does exist but is slowly getting better.

Many people are stating that there is more mistrust in the last 5 years or so.

It has nothing to do with democrat or republican. Look up Pearl Frayers Topiary gardens in Bishopville SC to see the message we work towards every day. Love, peace and goodwill.

Things are they way they've always been.. Like Kevin said.. The media is just bringing attention to what's already been happening... Now externally race relations seem cool and all.. As long as most members of different social groups stick to the same members.. But internally it's not that good.. It's never been..

Race relations and Black Lives Matter are not the same thing. Black Lives Matter is a George Soros funded activist organization formed to foster hate, riots, and destruction in this country based on lies and half truths. Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakahn, and others of their ilk are no different. They make money off of race baiting.

Yes. White people don't think it's bad because they don't face systemic hurdles that (non-white) Hispanics and Black people have to face. Also, talking about race relations makes many white people uncomfortable, so they just avoid talking about it altogether. This is bad because nothing ever gets resolved. They're response to black people who complain about social injustice is something along the lines of "we need to all get along" or "I don't see color" or "slavery was 150 years ago."

Many also think that Hispanics are coming to take over "their country. I've seen so many offensive jokes/stereotypes about Mexicans in the past couple of months, it's pretty amazing to see the lack of sensitivity. White people are quick to bring up the shortcomings of other races, but will fail to acknowledge their privilege. Race relations are bad, and will continue to be bad because white people either can't see it, refuse to acknowledge it, or just flat-out don't care.

Telling a white person about racism is like explaining what water is to a fish. When you only know one way of life, it's hard to imagine anything different, even for other people.

No - it's just 40 long years of ugly racist republican lies on FOX and Lush Limbo - a 24 hour a day drumbeat of republican hate. And it's been TWICE as strong since Obama got into the White House.

And that republican ugliness has put a certain stain on the country - sure enough.

But for all the miserable, endless bigotry from the republicans, the races get along pretty well. If we didn't there would be one hell of a lot more open warfare than there is.

As a whole, yes. But truth be told, the conversations and relationships I have with blacks and Hispanics are civil. We talk about trying to become better then what WE are as a people and America, not a race. The problem is white people are called racist for not supporting "BLACKLIVESMATTER".

The truth is most people only see color They never look at armed convicted felons, resisting arrest, whose crimes were most likely committed against their own people. Yes, even the whites

Race relations everywhere are strained. When certain people have been systematically oppressed for so long, what do you expect? The white majority in our country tend to feel like as long as they don't say the n word, they're not racist. Racism takes on many forms.

After filming cops and rallying over unjust treatment, people (whites) are mad. They don't want to hear about black people issues..... They have All Lives Matter....funny thing is , in situations where a white person is murdered by cops. Racism is here but not so much out in the open.

I can only speak for myself but as an Asian living in Washington state it has been eerie the entire time.

You can almost feel the hatred emanating from a person as you walk by.

Kinda weird for the fact that I did not choose to be here.

Hasn't been a problem since Rodney King until Obama became president and now suddenly that's about all you hear when you turn on the news.

Obama and the media are trying to divide this country. While things aren't great and certainly much worse since Obama took office it doesn't have to be.

Yes, and it's going to get uglier whether it be Trump or Hillary in the White House.

No, that is exactly what the media does. I live here in a diverse area and stuff like that happens, but its not as much as whats seen.

It's not worse in any other country.

That's why my teacher (God rest his soul) told Eisenhower to give us what we're owed and we'll be on our way!

Nope. Seriously wouldn't know anything was up unless I turned on the TV. And my city is racially integrated.

non-white racial hatred and violence is commonplace and pervasive.

race relations DONT exist... we are witnessing the abuse of the protections white societies afford others by the most disgusting, hatefull people to walk the earth.

you have white people who suffer the blight of non-white racist cowards.... and yes this is ALL non-whites without one single exception because they ALL act towards their racial interests at the expense of the white societies they force themselves onto. all the hate and harm and blight and decay is a price these racist scum are willing to see white countries pay... because their is no alternative for them in getting what they want.

so they ignore, dismiss, downplay and DENY the effects of the hatred they enjoy... this is who the "best" of non-whites are. NONE of them volunteer of themselves the hate and harm they perpetrate towards white people..socially, culturally, criminally, politically and violently.

In the USoA probably it would be a problem, however in the rest of the continent race relationships are not a problem.

What gauge does one use to determine "good" or "bad" race relations, and compared to what?

It is media hype as well as, racist screeming. A platform has been given to bigoted blacks and whites and people want to pretend they speak for everyone.

I live in Michigan and it's fairly segregated.

No. American media has just gone insane and could hardly be more anti-American. I see black people everywhere and things are normal.
