Question:
Why are Republicans so afraid of using the power of cooperation?

Any time we as a society tries to use the power of cooperation, conservatives get all fearful and protective. They think Social Security, Medicare and anything cooperative that the government does is COMMUNISM.

Every business transaction has a combination of cooperation and competition. If there were no cooperation, then we'd just steal from one another.

Social security and medicare rely on there being significantly more people paying into the system than receiving money from the system. That used to be just fine, but the birth rate has decreased significantly and people are living longer. It's no longer realistic to use such a system. It simply won't work anymore. That is why people are afraid of it, not because you think it's "cooperation".

Their plan this session has clearly been to prevent the President from doing anything at all that requires congressional approval, and then to blame him for not doing anything to fix the economy. It's a cynical tactic that can only succeed through the gross inadequacy of mass media and the sheer ignorance of the average voter.

It's also a level of obstructionism which is unprecedented since the period right before the civil war. Even contentious Congresses in the past have passed legislation on areas where both parties agree. But the new Republicans refuse to do even that. This is a symptom of how dysfunctional our system of Democracy has become, and I don't know any way out of it. Most people don't even want to accept that it's happening.

Because it might make Obama look too good!

Keep in mind they(Republicans) got together the night Obama was sworn in and decided they would obstruct him at all costs!

Look at the way they finally caved last year when public opinion went against them about defaulting the national debt!

Same with the stimulus bill in 2009!

The only time republicans cooperate is when the public forces them too!

Another example would be the public investigation into the 9/11/ terrorist attack!

It took public opinion to force the GOP Congress of 2001-03 to start up the 911 commission! At first they wanted Henry Kissinger to chair it until the 911 families objected because of all his ties to the middle east!

Also it took public opinion to force Bush to release the PDB of 8/6/2001 titled "Bin Laden determined to strike inside the US"!

"Any time we as a society tries to use the power of cooperation, conservatives get all fearful and protective."

Right. And Democrats were "so willing" to be cooperative during the Bush years? Give me a break.

Why?

Obamacare .. zero Republican votes and 49 Democrats against. Why? Not one single Republican suggestion was accepted for the plan. Are the Dems that brilliant to assume they knew everything? Especially since they admittedly had not even read it?

Cooperation is what has caused most of our current problems.

Wow...talk about ignoring the facts. You might want to take an objective look as recent history in congress...go back to 2006 or so.

Why do liberals believe that "cooperation" means it's THEIR way or else!
