Question:
Obama's solution for BP's oilspill: Tell Americans to end dependence on oil & do stuff to raise oil prices?

What frikkin' brilliance! What a man of action! Yay! *said with extreme sarcasm*

"Meanwhile, President Barack Obama said in prepared remarks that it was time to roll back billions of dollars in tax breaks for oil companies and use the money for clean energy research and development. He said the catastrophic Gulf oil spill shows the country must move toward clean energy, tapping natural gas and nuclear power and eliminating tax breaks for big oil."

Uh, no. That's not his "solution" for the oilspill. It's simply the sanest thing to do in general.

Why shouldn't oil companies, that make tens of BILLIONS in profits every quarter have to pay taxes? Every sane being thinks that huge profit-makers SHOULD pay their fair share of tax.

No one who has any brain denies that getting more of our energy from clean, renewable sources would be a good thing.

It's a lie Obama is doing nothing. You seem to be yet another wing-nut who thinks Obama has some magic way of stopping the leak that he's refusing to perform. WHAT, exactly, do you think Obama could do to stop the leak?

If Bush hadn't been a deluded, corrupt, moron, we'd already be getting a much higher percent of our energy cleanly, and would be using a LOT less oil today. Eight years wasted, when it could have been spent developing and deploying clean energy generators.

So you think we should have more tax breaks for oil companies and completely ignore the alternatives?

"The point I am making is Obama is doing nothing to stop the oilspill..."

He can't do anything to stop it. He's not a petroleum engineer.

"Big oil companies will make up the tax break difference by raising oil prices. Hello?"

By this logic no business should ever be taxed.

I think that is the plan. I thought it was weird that, in late March, Obama said he was going to allow drilling on the East Coast, then 3 weeks later, this Oil Rig just "Blew Up..." Obama already said that he wanted to raise our energy prices, since oil is our main source of energy, oil prices have to be risen.

Excuse me?

I read the excerpt you provided - it's completely true. Why on earth would we continue giving tax dollars to Big Oil when they can't even be responsible for the damage they do? doesn't it actually make SENSE to use those billions of dollars for researching other forms of energy? Of course it does. And he's also completely, totally spot-on about this catastrophe rubbing our noses in the REALITY that we have to move away from oil.

What's your problem?

P.S. This is not "Obama's solution" either. It's a comment. An opinion. A reaction to what's happened. An observation. And a succinctly accurate one, as a matter of fact.

-----> and it's a damn sight better than what BUSH said after 9/11, too.

If we don't make wells for oil we won't have this happen again. It was BP's fault. A company's fault. Not the government. I know how the GOP Worships the holy trintity of CEO, $$, and Company, while being Christan.

That's what the plan was all along, to Raise oil prices, they want gas to be six or seven

bucks an hour like it is in other countries.

My hubby might as well sleep at his work then since it's an hour away!

The liberal solution to every problem is to raise taxes.

Now obama has also sent a flotilla of government lawyers to sue BP, that will stop the leak for sure.

obama wants BP to fail.

Lawyer up, sue BP. that's his solution, which in no way solves this mess.
