Why do conserviatve believe in economic freedoms but not social freedoms?

i dont get conservatives. all they do is complain about how big government wants to control your money and that the people are the best ones to decide what to do with their money not the big evil government. government shouldn't regulate businesses. it should all be free market.

yet- when it comes to social issues such as gay marriage, abortion, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, student rights, then they are all for the government telling you what to do. then its okay for the governemnt to say you can't burn a flag or use "profanity" in movies. how come they are not concerned about freedom then? So the government is not quailified to spend your tax money, but they are qualified to make choices about your reproductive system. or what religions you can follow? or if rap songs can contain certain lyrics?

A large amount of republicans tend to be religious and they believe that a woman should not have an abortion, marriage is between a man and a women. It goes back to religion (in my opinion) and there's nothing wrong with that. If that's what they believe then let them. Ya'know? And if your both(economic and social freedom) you are probably a libertarian.

You're getting things mixed up. Conservatives may be against abortion and gay marriage, but they are not promoting that the government create policy against those things. Real conservatives feel that such issues should be up to the people of each state to decide for their own state in which they reside.



I don't know of any conservatives that oppose freedom of religion, barring any extreme religions that potentially cause harm unto others. Even if they did, they certainly wouldn't promote the government creating legislation to prevent it.





Freedom of choice does not mean that everyone else has to agree with your choice.

gay marriage - no conservative has a problem with gay people having relationships, sex, etc. Love the one your with brother! we only ask that our country maintain the sanctity of marriage between a man and a women - I would ask a liberal why do you think you have the right to change marriage since it was created for a man and a women. Conservatives are not asking to change the law - liberals are.



Abortion - Murder is Murder - It's a women's body so she should think twice before having sexual intercourse instead of demanding that a civilized nation condone and in many cases pay for her "so-called" mistake. She's the only mistake not the baby - yet liberal disagree with the death penalty for convicted murderers.



freedom of speech - WTF??? - You can say anything you want - no one is stopping you or is proposing a law to stop you no matter how offensive or stupid one may find your comments.



freedom of religion - Once again I know of no conservative that is asking for a ban on any religion - No idea what you are talking about.



Student rights - Same as above - Are you referring to laws or do you have some inside information about new legislation by the GOP's to remove rights of students. NO F&%king idea what you are talking about.

I'm not sure WHERE you got led astray.... but please let me point out the error in your argument.





We are a nation OF, BY, and FOR the PEOPLE.



Our government is a DIVISION of power among 3 branches, each with a different role from the other.



When "we the people" are allowed to have a REFERENDUM VOTE on a subject..... like "gay marriage".... and WE THE PEOPLE say (time after time) that we REJECT the idea of gays being allowed to marry.... that IS "America at it's finest". That IS the "system" working as it should.



Sadly... those who disagree with the LEGAL way that WE THE PEOPLE get to VOICE our beliefs and EXERCISE our LAWFUL RIGHTS..... stop seeing the TRUTH in the situation, and instead, "re-brand" what has happened as "lost freedom"... "lost rights"...etc.





In reality... WE THE PEOPLE have a LAWFUL way of being heard and having a PUBLIC vote. It's the very small (and 100% defeated) minority of gays who simply don't want to accept the LAWFUL way laws are made..... and they cry that their rights are "violated" or claim the Republicans abandoned our respect for Government.



Neither could be farther from the truth. You just wanted the "lawful process" to come to a different conclusion.... tough luck on that.

The governor of New Hampshire stated he would back a gay marriage initiative if the gay marriage lobby would concede that legal protection be afforded to ministers and churches who refused based on religious belief.



That is win/win. The gays said no deal. As I have suspected all along the gays don't want equal, they want to attack religious instituions and belief.
