I'd apologize to all the 'dumbed down' Americans who have been totally ruined and marginalized by our poor excuse of an education system ... as well as A, B, C and D.

"If you were President, which victims of U.S. imperialism would you apologize to first? "

A. Native Americans

And I created a web site several years ago to show WHY, called http://ColumbusNoHero.Org .

The reason that there are so many ignoramuses giving foolish answers to your question is that the U.S. "education" system screws up our children from the 3rd grade or so telling them that our European ancestors who invaded the Americas and raped, enslaved and killed the "Americans" who were living here and robbged them of everything they owned were not villains, but heroes !

The main difference between Columbus and Hitler is that Hitler lost and history is written by the winners like Columbus, not by the losers.

And we like Columbus being successful because he left his stollen property to US.

Don't you mean if I where the Emperor? If we are an Empire like you say we would have no need to apologize for any thing. After world war one or two we would have taken control over Europe. We would still have slaves. Slavery started under the British Empire and was done away as a result of becoming a Republic. Japan? Well they would be under our control as well. If we were an Empire you would be jailed for asking this question. Would you not?

I think the USA needs to apologise to the entire world. The only reason the USA was such a great place in the past was that the rest of the world had to carry the USA by living at a lower standard. Now the con game is up and the USA needs to take responsibility for the suffering they have inflicted on the entire world.

Just look at all the WARS the U.S has been involved in. All disasters and the only real victory was the bombing of Japan post WW2 nothing has been achieved going to war.

well now the native americans are the only ones who deserve anything.

africans took captives from other tribes and either sold them to sea captains or kept them their self this was common practice and had been going on long before americans came on the scene

the japs attacked america and we had 2 choices invade the main islands which would of cost a untold cost in american lives and many more japs as they were prepared to fight old men women kids till death by droping the bomb i would say 2 to 3 million lives were saved alone and history clearly shows it.

as for iraq well they deserve nothing they had a ruler who was killing them like flys he and his sons raped little school kids stole billions he was trying to destabilize the entire region had he done so oil would be 400.00 a barrel and he would be funding every anti jewish and american group he could ,we gave them their freedom and they owe us

None of the above. The only apology I would offer if I was President of the United States would be to your parents for the failure of the Federal Government to properly educate you and teaching you a love of country and the freedoms it provides. As President, I would return every tax dollar used that was taken from them for your education and apologize for wasting their money.

None of the above. Actions speak louder than words. I'd start by doing whatever I could to bring an end to the ongoing plutocratic exploitation of the poorer 99% of the worlds economy at the hands of the giant multinational corporations and the richest 1%, the U.S. military industrial complex, the oil, insurance pharmaceutical, and health industries, consumer capitalism, and the concept of personal wealth among other things. I'd save the apologies for later. That is, if I weren't assassinated first.

A. My great granny was Cherokee, so scratch them from the list. (P.S. You think if we hadn't come here, the Indians would still be living in tipis and hunting bison? Get real.)

B. I'd make the descendants of the African tribal leaders who sold their own people apologize.

C. I'd tell Japan, hey, we're friends now, but we did what we had to do back then.

D. While we provide security services at our expense? While they enjoy 50 cents a gallon for gas, but still charge our service people U.S. prices? While we rebuild their country above and beyond what it was before? Hell no. By the way, you should have seen the Iraqis celebrating in the streets in my area when Saddam was brought down.

These whiny little babies need to open their eyes and look at how much the U.S. has given in charity over the years. We give to everyone, even countries that HATE us! Do a little research.

We're not talking about things we did to upset our girlfriends, we are talking about things done for the greater good of our nation, using hindsight we can see some have been bad ideas, but there is no reason for us to apologize, when will the Italians apologize to the Catholics for feeding us to lions, or the Egyptians apologize to the Jews for enslaving them, etc etc etc....

None of them and no others. If I were president, I would actually be too busy working on creating prosperity for our nation as opposed to wasting time kissing azzes of useless leeches with victim complexes.

1. Yeah, we took that land so we could expand and prosper. I see nothing wrong with that.

2. They weren't slaves themselves so there is no need to apologize.

3. Those bombs save millions of lives. How, you ask? Because Japan had turned itself into a fortress, and an invasion would've cost the lives of millions of allied soldiers, more Japanese soldiers, and countless other civilian lives.

4. The death rate has gone down since we invaded, (and threw out a dictator who killed millions) and most civilian deaths in Iraq are due to insurgents, not coalition forces. And while there we confiscated Mustard Gas and Yellow Cake Uranium, which would've been used in WMDs.

A, No, when the first settlers came here, the intent was to live together, but that went out the window with numerous massacres by the Indians and of course the settlers fought back.

B. No, not until the dominant tribes of Africa that conquered and enslaved them to sell to slave traders apologize.

C. NO, we did not start the war but we sure did end it.

D. No, it was not known until after the fact that WMD's were for the most part gone.

The taxpayers.

As for the others, I might say the following

a) There is no undoing the past, there is only the present and the future. It is time for you guys to pick up and leave the remote ghettos to which our ancestors consigned your ancestors. Jobs and a better life await you in the cities.

b) If you check your history books you will notice that it was the U.S. army that destroyed the antebellum south and with it slavery. No thanks is needed.

c) Take it up with your government, they shot at us, we shot back.

d) That one we could do.

Americans are the least imperialistic of any major nation that has ever existed. I don't prescribe to silly white guilt. I wouldn't apologize to any of these. War is war. That's it. As to descendants of African slaves, I think the Africans who enslaved and sold them to the West slave traders are the ones who owe any apologies. If they REALLY feel they deserve an apology for bringing them here instead of Africa, I'm all for giving them a one way plane ticket back to the African nation of their origin.

I would apologize to all of them. If we are going to claim that we are the leader of the free world and a shining example for other countries we need to start acting like it. Were #1 means nothing if we are not going to stand up for the principles of the Constitution . No one is perfect but there is strength in being able to say I have wrong someone.

imperialism

the policy of extending the rule or authority of an empire or nation over foreign countries, or of acquiring and holding colonies and dependencies.

Are we an empire? Do we hold colonies? Who sold us the slaves? Were we attacked by Japan or did we attack them first? Were we a nation of our own when the American Indians were displaced?

The American Indians. There the only people we never truly took into society. You dont see slave reservations. The a bomb victims were betrayed by there military and leaders.
