Question:
Can't liberals see what Obama is going to do to the economy?
2009-04-25 03:05:24 UTC
Look, we can't blame president Obama for much (I call him president because as john wayne said about jfk "i didn't vote for him, but i hope he does a good job").

But look, some of his ideas will completely crash the economy. I took economics, and I had a teacher explain to me how we could have both low taxes and still fund most social programs. Its sort of like having your cake and eating too.

You see higher taxes, more regulation, more bailouts, more printing of money, and the fact that the federal reserve is a Private enterprise should make your stomach turn.

We will see inflation to points we couldn't even dream. This is not a conservative idea, its just a fact.

I am one liberal that sees the trends with crystal clarity. Higher taxes and more regulation are unfortunately going to be necessary to put to rights the current situation. We also need to put the brakes on the crooks and inepts in banking. What we don't need is more bailouts and printing of money. We need to get rid of the idiots that caused the mess: fire all the CEO's of all the banks that are insolvent, question the regulators that turned blind eyes to the problems, fire all the politicians that did not enforce laws already on the books that would have averted or ameliorated the financial disaster within the banking industry.

I agree, inflation is just around the corner and it ain't gonna be pretty when it gets really bad.

People need to be focusing on paying off extraneous debt and saving money to see themselves through the coming inflationary A-bomb, too. Forewarned is fore-armed.

No dude, it is a neo conservative (not a conservative) idea that you can have low taxes and fund social programs.Your first hint that this is too good to be true was when you realized as you put it that "you can have your cake and eat it too". That is totally wrong. Supply side economics ( also derisively known as "trickle down economics") is what got us in this economic situation in the first place.

People like you were so thrilled and seduced with the idea that the less you pay in taxes the more you would get in return in revenue, and economic growth that you lost your common sense. It's like fooling yourself into believing that the more you eat the less you will weigh because all that eating is actually exercise that burns calories !

Right now we need to spend money to get out of this recession. Believing that we shouldn't is what prolonged the Great Depression when Herbert Hoover did it. Did your teacher mention that ? Did your teacher mention how Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal practically "spent" our way out of the Depression ?

Fact is while Obama isn't perfect, his economic policies are on the right track. And you can literally take that to the bank.

an addition here, not an answer because I'm lib but can see what's happening... ie - cutting the deficit in half after you quadruple it, is still doubling where we are now... Kumar is right... it's really just more of the same. we will fix it, we the people... not obama or bush or clinton... we will. dems just agree with it now because their guy is in... had bush done this, huge back lash. but how do you get people to look at issues on merit and not political affiliation when they're brainwashed?

remember gas prices? who raised those prices? wasn't oil companies... try congress. guess who came up short this year on taxes by about a billion after the highest gas price hikes in history? oil companies continued getting their standard percentage... which by the way is below the average businesses overhead. what did congress do with all that money? how can anyone think they manage a larger sum any better than they did before? just because democrats are in? they are still politicians rerouting funds to personal interests and claiming it's 'disappeared'.

Yes they can but within their peer group they are mostly government program children anyway so it's high roller time for them. They don't pay taxes so they aren't worried about it anyway. When we eventually get a fair tax then they will sing the blues. It's easy to be a lib when you're living off of the back of someone else. Their mentor, Obama, was also a program child.

There are questions about Obama's economic policies that even liberals have to ask. However, how different are they from Republican economic ideas? I believe that the market will work this out whether it be under Obama or a Republican. I don't believe in the doom and gloom because this country has always been able to stand up after disaster and crisis.

I had a long drawn out explanation... but really, I'll explain it to you very simply...

OBAMA KNOWS THIS...

if inflation does what you say... he will not get re-elected...

and he has a TEAM of economic experts to make sure that doesn't happen...

NOW... if you want to trust your one professor... over his entire team...

go crazy...

I don't buy it... and there are MANY opinions on economics and what certain actions do...

and I don't think it's quite as much of a "fact" as you think it is...

if it "is" then you and your teacher are smarter than many, many economists that make MUCH MUCH MUCH more money than the two of you...

and the market has FAILED MISERABLY at evaluating talent... (which of course calls into question the entire idea of a free market)

Get canned goods while they are cheap, because liberals don't give a damn. Their guy won, and it is just glory days for them. They don't have the experience to get out of this, and they know it. Our government is being ran by the federal reserve and wall street almost exclusively now. Neither one of those has the common man's interest at heart.

Well, your teacher can yap all he likes. But Obama knows what he's doing--and his policies will work.

Oh--and what you describe is NOT what Obama is doing. You might want to get your "economics" from a legitimate source, instead of a drug addict like Rush Limbaugh.

Oh, yeah--here's a question none of you cons seem to want to answer. How is it that spending on "social programs plus higher taxes" is bad for the economy, but deficit spending on corporate welfare and$2 trillion wars plus lower taxes is not?
2009-04-25 05:02:01 UTC
Sorry. I can blame Obama for a lot. & I do. Liberals are just incensed about conservative ideas they see nothing else.
2009-04-25 03:26:26 UTC
Let them ignore it.

That many less people buying gold, keeps the price down for me.

Inflation is going to get sick in a couple years.

Buy gold, as much as you can get.

DUDE!! We don't agree with you politically, so why would we be worried? All I've seen in the past 100 days is finally a President who has my best interests at heart for the first time since Bill Clinton. You're not going to change any minds on Yahoo. What you see as a negative, we see as a positive. Why is it so hard for you to comprehend that?
