Rush Limbaugh says to send donations to Haiti through private sources such as Red Cross. Is he correct?

This is the article: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2010/01/15/2010-01-15_rush_limbaugh_haiti_earthquake_comments_are_really_stupid_says_white_house_press.html

Here is the gist:

The ever-controversial radio talk host is taking fire for advising people not to donate to Haitian relief through the fund set up by the White House.

If you do that, said Limbaugh, you’ll probably just end up on an Obama campaign mailing list – and a big chunk of your donation will get siphoned off by government bureaucrats.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs called Limbaugh’s assertions "really stupid"

I agree completely.

Wow, I'm scared, I agree with Limbaugh.

You should know your money would never make it to Haiti if it first had to go between all those fingers and hands. Did Social Security make it? (Nope, it was petty cash for anyone in D C) It doesn't even have to be that close for them to "invent an idea" as to why you owed it to them, or that their need is greater. (the warnings are out there ... the Fed is "eying" your IRA/Pension ... right now, as a solution to their problems) Don't act so surprised. didn't hear Rush say it. If he did ... He's correct. Much worse than that is on the way. Hyperinflation. Argentina devalued their currency by 50%. Think we're not close behind? Think that wont have Global implications? Do you keep spending when you're broke? If so ... how? Credit? From who? What's your collateral? interest rate/limit? Get a grip.

Rush Limbaugh is probably correct that donating to the Red Cross would be more efficient than donating to the fund set up by the White House.

The Red Cross is already established as a charitable organization that can quickly and efficiently use money donated to them.

Rush is absolutely correct. If one really wants to help haitians, send your donation to the red cross and NOT THE GOVERNMENT. Why people think this is stupid is so frigging absurd. Why people lets their politics dictate the way they think is amazing. EVERYONE knows that the government cannot be efficient, and im talking about all government. Get your head out of yourtail and think for yourself once in your life

I went to the Whitehouse.gov website and I found a blog that shows how you can help and where to donate.

When you click on the "Contribute online to the Red Cross" you exit out of Whitehouse.gov and enter the Red Cross website

That's all it is...a blog that shows you where to go. I didn't see anything about a campaign mailing list.

I suggest that people check the facts out before making allegations

It is the Job of the White House Press Secretary to spin Rush's exposures as "really stupid"

Basically, Limbaugh was saying that any government set-up charity will be weighed down with bureaucrats and red tape... which will delay getting help to those who really need it... and who can argue with that logic?? He encouraged people to donate to the likes of the Red Cross who already have an established process in place and will put the maximum amount of your charity dollars to work.

I agree with Rush on this one. Better to donate to an organization that will actually get the aid to the people who need it and not to the corrupt politicians who run the country down there, as a donation from the US government will have no oversight.

What is the flippin' difference??

Give some money for a cause! What in the hell is the issue?? Give through Red Cross, White House, or whatever - does it HONESTLY matter??

Rush is making the comment to get people talking about mindless s**t. And you are buying into it hook, line and sinker.

I feel like I've given enough through my enormous tax contribution. The average American is besieged on all sides by people with their hands out, and even in, his/her pockets. When you consider that the average American only keeps 29% of his/her income after taxes ( ALL TAXES), it is obnoxious to ask for more.

Is this the same White House press secretary that LIED about Obama stimulus creating or saving 6 million jobs

Now that comment qualifies as "really stupid"

Red Cross all the way

Yesh that sounds about right. Knowing the Obama adm would you give them your personal information?

Sorry I think for myself. I don't not donate to something because Rush says so...

Money is the wrong thing to send Haiti.

Send food, send medical assistance but money will just be siphoned off by the "officials".

AND Rush is 100% right about what President Erkel's people will do with some of the money AND the names list.

I'd agree with Gibbs.

Donations through the Red Cross go through siphoning also - they pay their top people really, really well. BUT - they also deliver aid like they say they will. So does the US govt.

It's stupid.

What would be the point of putting someone in a mailing list against their will? All it'd do is to lose more votes.
2010-01-15 13:54:32 UTC
Of course he's correct! This administration cannot be trusted to keep track of money. Witness the mess they created with the stimulus money, making up fake congressional districts where millions of dollars have gone. I would NEVER send a donation through them. But I certainly will through the Red Cross.
