Question:
Why does the Department of Defense believe Climate Change is a real threat?
2010-11-15 15:19:29 UTC
From the DoD's Quadrennial Defense Review Report:

"Climate change and energy are two key issues that will play a significant role in shaping the future security environment. Although they produce distinct types of challenges, climate change, energy security, and economic stability are inextricably linked. The actions that the Department takes now can prepare us to respond effectively to these challenges in the near term and in the future.

"Climate change will affect DoD in two broad ways. First, climate change will shape the operating environment, roles, and missions that we undertake. The U.S. Global Change Research Program, composed of 13 federal agencies, reported in 2009 that climate-related changes are already being observed in every region of the world, including the United States and its coastal waters. Among these physical changes are increases in heavy downpours, rising temperature and sea level, rapidly retreating glaciers, thawing permafrost, lengthening growing seasons, lengthening ice-free seasons in the oceans and on lakes and rivers, earlier snowmelt, and alterations in river flows.

"Assessments conducted by the intelligence community indicate that climate change could have significant geopolitical impacts around the world, contributing to poverty, environmental degradation, and the further weakening of fragile governments. Climate change will contribute to food and water scarcity, will increase the spread of disease, and may spur or exacerbate mass migration."

Because it is?

Annually, 15 million acres of once fertile land (6 million hectares) are lost to desertification.

We have a limited supply of fertile land.
just curious

They understand that carbon toxicity is overheating the planet. This leads to third world countries suffering from famine and disease. This leads to militirization against those countries that fail to support them. This leads to migration to such countries. Overpopulation is what they are afraid of and as long as republicans deny global warming such things will occur. There is a book called On global warming the complete treatise. I suggest you find it and read it. In it you can see that the need for countries to incorporate nuclear, biomass, solar, natural gas (sounds a lot like what Iran is up to) is what is needed for the future. However when the dogs of war start yelling nuke in a crowded theatre the media does no job of discerning fact from fiction and we start off on the path to wars. Yes DOD and global warming are interlinked and perhaps the denial of gubernatorials will stall on the need to become less dependent on foreign oil until we have China landing its troops here to show Americans what imperialism is all about. After all we invade country after country and not yet have we been invaded. Long overdue if you ask me....

When I was still active duty, if I had a dollar for every report like that that covered various things that can go wrong and how to respond, I'd be loaning Warren Buffet lunch money. The only way to remove the man made part of the equation is to reduce the population of the world under 500 million. Are you volunteering to be one of the first to be culled?

DoD as you amy notice does not speculate as to what causes climate change and how to stop it. It looks like serious people understand that carbon tax will do nothing to climate change and prepare to live with it.

I generally don't believe the defense department, but I know they are smart and crafty enough to line up for the "climate change" graft, that they will spend doing whatever they want with.
