Question:
Why did the Obama Administration stop construction on our border fence that Congress passed a law to build?
2010-05-26 12:07:40 UTC
Sen. Jim DeMint has introduced an amendment (SA 4177) to the Emergency Supplemental bill, H.R. 4899. This amendment would require the Obama Administration to finish the 700 mile-long border fence within 12 months. Currently, less than half of the fence has been completed and the Administration has stopped construction of the fence -- despite Congress having passed legislation requiring its completion. There are three other border enforcement amendments (SA 4214, SA 4202, and 4228) that, if passed, would increase the number of troops and Border Patrol agents on the border and help the DEA stop drug smuggling at the border.

The Senate will vote on these amendments on Wednesday or Thursday, but it could be as early as Wednesday morning!

Because Obama is a domestic enemy of the U.S.

Our laws are just obstacles for him to get around

The fence will, indeed, work. We need to make one like Israel has, and is quite effective.

It's a double fence, no high tech stuff, just a fence. It must be patrolled by border security, national guard, whoever, but they must be able to use their weapons.

If not, we might as well send the girl scouts

The President made an oath to protect the United States of America. Actually he flubbed the oath of office and when he did give it correctly with Chief Justice Roberts, he was not putting his hand on the Bible after all. So, in reality, Obama figures he has free reign to do whatever he wants to. The Senators want the border secured... well, how about that. Obama wants Hispanics to vote for him, so he doesn't really care about our borders being secured.

These Senators keep introducing bills that may or may not pass, but most certainly, will probably not be enforced if passed. McCain's bill asked for 6,000 troops, and Obama sent 1200.... not even the half asked for.

I've mothered 3 kids through their Jr. High years...full of self-absorbed, just barely out of concrete developmental thinking stage. The Obama administration reminds me of those years that I would actually rather forget about. They're not fun to go through with kids, but when a whole entire administration is so self-absorbed and out-of-touch with reality, it gets quite wearying!

This has nothing to do with Democrat or Republican. It has to do with the North American Union that the news keep ignoring. They don't want a fence and the only reason why the fence was signed into "Law" is because it was suppose to appease the US citizens into accepting amnesty. They never intended for the fence to be built...it was a smoke screen that backfired on them. It is time that we got rid of the Lawyers in politics and started electing people who are of the general populace who actually have to LIVE with what illegal aliens do to the US.

Wait a second, are we still angry about government spending or does things like building giant expensive walls across continents not count?

I'm having a real hard time understanding what is okay to waste resources on and what isn't these days. Let me write out my understanding here for a second:

- Economic Recovery Plans - No

- Social and Educational Programs - No

- Increased Infrastructure Spending - No

- Affordable Healthcare Plans for all Citizens - Hell No!

- Increased Police Authority to Verify all Dark Skinned Individuals Credentials - Yes

- Importing Non-Violent Non-US Citizens for Incarceration (ie: Marc Emery) - Yes

- Increased Overseas Military Infrastructure Spending - Yes

- Giant Walls Across Continent - Yes

What am I missing?

Here is what it says in the Arizona newspapers:

Grijavla to Obama: Suspend border fence

Arizona Daily Star:

Arizona Rep. Raúl Grijalva and seven other Democratic members of the House sent a letter to President Obama on Tuesday asking that he suspend construction of border fencing.

They want Obama to suspend fence construction along the U.S.-Mexico border, at least temporarily, until an evaluation of border security operations being conducted by the new administration is concluded.

“We, along with our constituents, understand the importance of protecting our borders,” the letter reads.

“Though there are places where a fence is the most feasible option, we strongly believe the Bush Administration’s approach of constructing a fence along much of the Southwest border was ill-conceived as it was void of any meaningful input from the local communities or the Border Patrol Sector Chiefs who are most familiar with the challenges of securing our border.”

The George W. Bush administration oversaw what is likely the largest and fastest buildup of fencing, technology and manpower along the southern border in history.

Geez it's not a REAL fence!!! are you that uninformed?

Secretary Napolitano just announced that she would be halting SBInet until she could complete her review of the program. SBInet- inaccurately nicknamed the 'virtual fence' is actually a system of cameras and sensors at the border to help border patrol agents catch illegal border-crossers. Thus far, the program has been initially deployed at two areas along the border, but Napolitano's decision would halt future funding until the completion of her program assessment

Note the words VIRTUAL FENCE a system of cameras and sensors that were not working....

If everyone who has an interest in this issues starts calling their senators offices, you will see how quickly things will be addressed. Also, if your senator and representative is bombarded with demands for change, and they refuse to comply with the citizens, they can be voted out of their cushy jobs that are not working in the best interest of their constituents.

The Obama Administration has not stop construction of border fence.

Obama and the libs are thinking of how many votes per day cross the border. Now, all they have to do is give them the vote, one way or the other(amnesty) If obama can't stop the crossings, he should check with the people in Berlin... They did it for years..

Build the dam fence, but in the Canadian border. That will solve the immigration problem.

How hard would it be to go over under or through a wall if you had all the time in the world to figure out how?

Republicans/conservatives/righties complain if President Obama spends and complain if he doesn't spend.

Check out these photos and then tell us how useful you think the border fence is:

The fence is expensive and has never worked. I thought you were a fiscal conservative all yelling about big government waste?

Because it's ineffective and doesn't work. A "wall" is not the solution to the problem.
